I just ccoked a pumpkin and made pumpkin butter. . . . It was EASY and delicious. It was the first time I had ever tried to make it.
I froze the EXTRA and can not wait to do it again. I have never had pumpkin soup, but I can image it is good. I betcha my pumpkin butter would of gone real good on that fresh made bread . . . .

Morning/afternoon people,

New supply of coffee is here, India Monsoon Malabar or Costa Rica Tarrazo

Weather: outside-26 clear with frost, highs in the mid 60's - inside 60 degs and clear.

chics in the sun: we have a small wood stove that I relight every morning. The fire usually burns out during the night, and depending when I go to bed, if I'll have coals in the morning. The furnace will kick on when it hits 55's.

oesdog: I can sympathize with your better half. I have been in so many house fires that I have lost count. The heat, smells, noise, it's a "eye" opener to be in one. The most recent was the neighbors behind us (who we get our lamb from) had a barn fire last spring.

pumpkin soup, now is that a hot soup or a cold soup? I'm not really a fan of pumpkin pies or pies in general. I do enjoy the seeds, slow roasted in the oven...

The oldest rat has concerts this weekend, so we are going to catch one this Sunday.

Enjoy the day

Kaj

The pumpkin soup is HOT!!!!!! I hate cold soup - I don;t know how anyone can eat cold soup anymore than anyone can drink Iced T????????? Crazy crazy crazy!!!!!!!
T HOT - Soup HOT!!!!!!!!! Ice cream COLD!!! - simple really!!!!!

Kaj - I didn;t know you could eat Pumpkin seeds???????
Were you in the fire service???? Being in any house fire isn;t good at all. DH has seen a lot of not nice stuff being x Ambulance so that kind of leaves a lasting impression I think, especially if it is little kids. I do know he was deeply affected by one child comming home from the mission field - poor little dot had pulled the village cooking pot over on himself. - Sadly he didn;t make it and passed away a few days after comming home. At least he got pain relief. I have thankfully never been in a house fire or delt with severe burns. I guess I am very fortunate as DH has delt with bomb blast injuries and all sorts. The closest I ever came to that was some neighbors of ours years go had a little fight and he went to the pub to "escape" Sadly while he was away cooling off the electric heater in the hall exploded into flames. His wife managed to fight her way past it and run and grab their baby - she managed to get out of the house but was sooo upset locked herself in her car with the baby. The fireservice put the fire out but it had gutted the hall and the kitchen and most of the rest of the downstairs. We brought the lady and baby into our home and waited on the ambulance. I nursed the little chap and he was fine. They went to hospital and got treated for smoke inhilation and shock. - Sadly though two weeks later the baby was found dead in his cot. We never knew if the house fire and his sudden death were related but I will never forget holding him and how lovely and well he looked that night despite what had happened.
Yeah fires are not nice and DH is right to be afraid of them.

The lady here who just lost all her children is apparently in a stable condition in hospital. I don;t see how she will ever get over this awful tragedy. We have a lot of problems here right now with the health servce and also the fire service. No one seems to want the cuts to affect them. The Fire service is talking strikes again and the health service is up in arms about cuts in funds. - In reality they wast a lot of money though. Our main hospital here paid some girl over £250'000 to paint a snake outside the hospital main doors????? That same month I couldn;t get mouth swabs for my dying father in law - because they didn;t have the funds to replace them on the wards?????

Oesdog - anyhow been Christmas shopping today and am tired so am away for now.

Just got back from my first Chicken Show. Interesting experience. It ended up being a bit more driving than expected, but it was a nice day out.

Math Ace - Not a single Marans to be found in the place, not even in the for-sale cages! Is it because they don't have standards for them yet or something? Some nice looking Brahmas and Ameraucana roo's, and a LOT of Bantams of all kinds.

Gotta tend to the child and the chickens, one's whining and the others are squawking. And the rabbit isn't making any noise, but I think it's out of food, so I'll tend to him, too.

Morning/afternoon people

Breaking into the new supply of coffee, the India Malibar(sp).

Weather: clear and 26 this morning going up to the 60's. House temp, 62, and clear.

Going to see the oldest rat play today.

osedog: "I don;t know how anyone can eat cold soup anymore than anyone can drink Iced T????????? Crazy crazy crazy!!!!!!!
T HOT - Soup HOT!!!!!!!!! Ice cream COLD!!! - simple really!!!!!" - I have to agree, soup is to be hot, BUT tea, well...... I drink more ice tea then hot tea and ice cream, that's just a insult to good ole fashion milk. I'm a "block" head, nothing is simply for me. I blame it on me being....... I don't want to insult your better half (joking).

"I didn;t know you could eat Pumpkin seeds" - They are good, you should try them. You can eat them either HOT or COLD. We have also eaten the seeds from butternut and acorn squashes. Clean them all off, soak them in salt water overnight and then slow (low heat) bake till they are somewhat dry.

Yes I was in the local volunteer fire department. I was the #2 on the 3 man line. I was right behind the nozzle/gun. We also had to support the ambulance crews. So I was trained in advance first aid. My motto was " If you weren't hurt'en before I came. you will be after I left"... Some sites I have seen will be taken to the grave with me.

sissy: 1 of ours is just starting to lay again. 1 egg every other day.

chics in the sun: road trips are always fun. I told the little rat, part of the adventure is getting lost....

Enjoy your day

Kaj

Good morning, chicken keepers!

BF left for a 10 mile hike with his friend, so I've got the house to myself and the little guy. Think I'll go to church and straighten up the place, and try and find a few minutes to read sometime today. Maybe start some on-line Christmas shopping.

Oesdog - you might feel differently about cold tea and soup if it was 90 degrees day in and day out where you live. I LOVE my iced tea, and cold soup isn't bad if it's hot enough out.

My older EE is getting a big, fluffy butt. Soon, soon!!

Morning/afternoon people,
Coffee's tasting good. I'm on a roll with it.

Weather: outside-42, looks cloudy, no stars are out, today mid 50's chance of showers, inside 62 and clear.

chics in the sun: How did your BF make out? Does he/you do bush whacks?

The oldest rat concert was good. It's funny no more of that squeaking, squawking of the high school days. I guess all those college years paid off.

Today is yard work here, getting ready for winter. I think I am pushing the limit of fall here. Leaves to rake, garden to close, compost pile to move. I have to start thinking about building a run for the new coop.

How are your gardens doing?

Enjoy the day

Kaj
