Coffee's ready...

I took dad to a chicken show an hour from home yesterday. I think I wore the poor man out!
The roos were too loud for him, but I think he had a GREAT time.

TODAY, when everyone finally drags their lazy butts out of the nice toasty warm beds, I am going to start putting together some NEW coops. We are under a FREEZE warning until 11:00 today. It is 32 F outside right now.

Good morning all.
Math ace Im sure you tired Dad out but it was a good tired.
Have a wonderful warm day Im getting back to the coops
to fill up with more wood shavings for warmth in
this coming storm we are waiting for.its 26 now
but I do have to find a better way then hauling 4 gals.
of warm water.
I did get the rubber bowls and they are so much
better then the plastic drinkers I had.
which is better wood shavings or straw.
for the dirt floor coops?

I bought some Bigger ones at Christmas. . . Just too much on my plate right now with Family. . . . I try to be good, but at the end of the day I have learned not to beat myself up over this one too much!

When I was young, I had time for me. . .
The kids need me and my dad needs me A LOT right now. . . . .
When my kids look back 10 years from now - - - I want them to think about all the things I did for them, not how good my pants fit.
In 10 years from now - - - when my dad is no longer on this earth, I don't want to regret one single thing I did with him INCLUDING his very favorite - - ice cream cones!

You still gotta take care of yourself, woman!! It will be a good example for them. I don't spend a lot of time at the gym when I do go, just enough to get my heart rate up and do some stregthning excersises. And I try and do stuff that involves my son, like carrying him around the pool "swimming" or going on walks. I started with the kids/family thing late, so I have to stay healthy as long as I can to enjoy him and whatever grandbabies I get!
I also have to stay vigilant about my weight and eating habbits. I come from a long line of folks who have battled the bulge and often lost, resulting in a variety of health issues. When my dad lets down his guard he ends up pushing 300 pounds before he even realizes what happened. I do enjoy my treats, and I'm not a skinny girl by any stretch of the imagination - I'd make a good model for a resaisance painting - but there's a number I don't like to be above, and right now I'm over!!

I'm doing pretty go so far - lost 3pounds since New Years. I think I might join that thread, too, Oesdog!!

Back to the grind today. Hope you all had a great weekend. How was the show, Math Ace? Take any new birds home with you?

Morning (or closer to afternoon) People,
Just stopped in for a bit, it's been awhile to say hello.
The highlights for me since the 1st of the year:
The little rat dropped in unannounced with her boyfriend. The stayed 3 days, so we had a Bed and Breakfast going on. The better half enjoys the little rat, so what can you say? They gab just about every day for close to an hour.
We have been doing some hiking the last week. 1 Fire tower, a mountain called Black Dome, and the third is called Blue stone Quarry. Black Dome was the worst for the better half. I think we took to long for lunch and she started getting cold. She couldn't zip up her wind breaker, her fingers didn't want to cooperate with her. It took us just as long to get to the summit as it was to get down. From about the 3000' mark till the summit was all ice. We are heading out this Friday and Saturday to do a few more.

Bread day today. Chickens are starting to lay full time (enough to keep us fed)

chics in the sun: Sorry about your son and his school. I wouldn't worry about him tho, it's the school that has the problem. One day he'll move over the threshold and this will be a thing of the past. Good luck in finding a new school for him.

osedog: Good for you in your endeavor in finding new homes for your birds.

Hello Sissy, Math Ace and Karl

I'm like a Labrador, I don't know enough to stop eating.

Enjoy your day
Kaj

Good mnorning chicken wranglers
lots of snow in atlanta!~ Global warming? My goose is pretty smart! She was getting picked up to get takin into the shed for the night and she grabbed the fence so I could not take her in ? she would not get through the night alive if she stayed out, the coyote's or the coons would feast. So I just put her up! Now she tries to keep me from lifting her.
She does not know I got her best interest in mind. Amazing though that she would think to grab the fence like that to keep from being taken in.

quercus21 - Thanks for that. It was hard to give up the birds and I miss them terribly. I wonder sometimes why GOD created such lovely birds THAT ARE TOO LOUD FOR SO MANY OF US TO KEEP????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I now have three new Hens but they are not in great condition. All PRs Though DH is convinced they are pure breed RIRs??? Two of them have cross beaks and one is half starved!!! Their names have changed half a dozen times since they came but we have finally settled on Agnes, Florence and Dorothy ( Little Dot)
They look like they are rescued Batery farm hens!!!!! Anyhow Agnes and Florence seem to have settled quite well and are better looking as their crowns are now red not white! Little Dot is very very thin and when I lifted her first all her feathers just came away in my hands. It seemed more than a molt - more like part of her not being fed enough or something???? Anyhow she was very ill looking. She has been here a few days now and I have managed to get her to eat a good bit. Though I have to part her so she gets her share. I am feeding her scrambled egg, tuna and yogurt. I just want to get the weight on her asap. It is sooo cold here and she has NO fat reserve. Her comb is white with a blueish tinge. Again I think due to starvation nothing more. I suspect she was a very low ranking hen and just got picked on and buldozed out of the way when food was put out. So that is why I part her and the other two girls so they can get fed seperately. They enjoy free ranging in the yard which is good. Agnes and Florence have laid eggs for me so I guess they are feeling better.

karl E lutz - Animals are daft arn;t they!!!!! They just don;t get it that your trying to do your best by them. My guys were right pains because they just wouldn;t shut up - I hid them in the shed and double caged them in a dark box at night but they still hollored at the top of their voices!!!!! They have no idea how close to losing their heads they came!!!! I hope you keep your girl safe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really tired tonight - Danny finally went back to adult center after the break but AGAIN they had Bus trouble. It would seem the disabled always get the worst busses that always break down!!!! Anyhow I was sure glad to get the day without him!!!!! He had fun too and that was really good for him cause he gets bored really quick here and likes the routine of the adult centre.

I have Jessica in the morning - so I will away and get some sleep before that I think.
I will need to start cleaning the office out and doing accounts etc - not looking foward to that. So will try to work round the baby.

Oesdog, gotta ask how big is Jesse now? How do they size clothes over there>

Everyone else hey ya'll been a busy day, still got a bunch of chicks and snow everywhere. Did my volunteer job today, got called in to help out and boy was I hurting. Went to bed at 5:30 and might have slept longer except our BR is right next to the livingroom and some people talk to loud. Couldn't get back to sleep and I had taken one of my stronger pain pills. Well lets hope I sleep the night. Gotta be up for the dentist. Just a cleaning but I hate it just the same. More insurance stuff to deal with. Yuk.

Oh got tickets to AL, next month. Hope the weather is nice. I hate to fly in the winter and it's makes my arms tired.

Got a transfer in Chicago and we know how windy that is. Lord give me grace. DS has been talking to Momma a lot these days wonder what's going on there? He and his are in AL.

DD is in TX and she calls everyday. Called me this morning and asked for money, which is par for the course. Well i wore her clogs to tend the chickens in the summer and ruined them. They don't live here but leave their stuff for when they visit. So I wore them and she 's want's me to pay for them now. She did call to talk to momma again. Lord have mercy sometimes three and four or more times a day. I have no idea why they move so far away when they want to be right here anyhow. Moved her back from VA twice. Now she's married and it ain't my job no more. Thank the Lord. Now if hers could only find a job, but they hope to move back to NY next summer after she has the baby. To stay with us for a while. OH JOY!

They all love their momma. Me i could drop dead and they'd just wantta know how much I left them. Wont' they be surprised I'm spending it as fast as I can get it.

Well take care and good night, love ya all. Just don't ask for money or to come and live with us. Unless your willing to clean the coop and take care of the chickens and snowblow the driveway.

Good Morning, flock tenders! I'm sleepy today after a very busy day yesterday. Between trying to fix the smoke alarm at the rental, Target, and getting a new file cabinet, then fast food taco diner (NOT on the diet plan), we didn't get home till 7 last night. Worked all day and ran around all afternoon, but now I do have a new (used) metal file cabinet, found on craig's list. So this weekend I'll be doing what you need to do Oesdog, organizing and bills and what not as I transfer my papers to it. The other one fell front first to the floor when I tried to move it - what a crash, and what a mess!! It's made of that cheap particle board and has never fully recovered from it's fall. Time to put it out of it's misery.
My son currently wears the "didn't this JUST FIT you last week"? size. Seriously. I got rid of four pairs of pants this weekend.

Rancher, they would miss you terribly! I've been looking for clogs for chicken-tending, too. Hard to find around here.

Well, time to get to work. Left my brief case in the car - the school is locked down like Fort Nox (sp?) once the first bell rings, so I will have to make my way up front to get back in from the parking lot. Oh well.....

Have a great day!

Good Morning People,
Looks like some of Rancher's snow is heading for us. 3 - 5" for tonight and another 3 - 5" for tomorrow. The better half is excited, we can break out the snowshoes for Friday/Saturday humps. It's a softer landing when you take a spill and after the last hump, the little **** had so many bruises on her. There wasn't enough ice for the crampons, but enough to make you slip and fall.

I would like to thank you Osedog for the bad habit I picked up. The humiliating, unheard of, what's wrong with me....... I have been finding myself drinking tea in the afternoons lately. Is there a cure for this??? Will I still be allowed on this thread? I have been cursed!!!!!

Venison for supper tonight. How, I don't really know yet. I tried a different way of making chicken stew and dumpling last night and the ladies just about inhaled it all. I had to sneak some out for my grand mother in law.

Enjoy the day
