We do it kinda STRANGE around here....

confusing but it is alright as long as they don't develope identity issues!

I am a wee bit low today. - Ok I am soft but the two roosters I got from Bertha's Brooding last year have apparently been killed.
We put them up to a local farm as the lady there promised us they would not be killed. - Yeah right! Duck was a bit challenging due to him being a Maran and Gery's boy! And Big Red was a fantastic Red Sussex ( Though he was not called Randy red for nothing!) DH went to ask after them and apparently was told that they had killed them. I cannot understand why when they promised this would not happen and they knew we would of had them back if they didn;t want them anymore. Some folk are just ignorant and mean!!!!! They said they didn;t kill their chickens and we thought our boys were safe. I am soooo cross! We loved Big Red and would have used him to breed from no bother. The sad thing is that I used to keep the lads seperated at night to try to keep the noise of them crowing down. So I used to have to bring them to the coop with the girls every morning! That meant they were used to being cuddled and handled and were not mean at all. Bertha their Brood Momma used to stand and wait for them at the gate. She still goes to the gate every morning and this is months later. - I feel so sad her boys are dead. I feel realyl giulty because they were safe here!!!!!!! We got rid of them because our neighbor complained about crowing and now he lets his darn dog bark for hours and hours right up till near midnight!!! Ahhhhhh

Anyhow that said Gerty is doing well with the Brooding she has not left the nest today at all!! She still has room service but she hasn;t got up even for that. Last year Bertha was very dedicated too!

SPEAKING of identity issues. .. . Two roosters are in with the pot belly pigs....
I keep watching the roos watch the pigs' backside.....
They think about mounting, but are really afraid to try it.....
It might have something to do with the way the pigs PUSH or lift the roos off the ground with their snouts
when it comes to clearing a path to the food.

The roos keep calling the "come here GIRLS" call when they get treats . . .. and my pot bellies keep answering to the call.
My one pot belly will totally ignore any ANY any treat that I am offering if she hears the rooster doing the "come here GIRLS" call!

I am sorry that these people lied to you and as for the neighbors dog I would be sure to complain right back. I'd record the barking as proof of it's offense.

You might want ot let folks know that these people are liars in saying they won't eat folks roosters.

Thanks Rancher - I was hopping to have found a good longterm home for the boys and we told them at the time if they had any issues to get right back to us and if the boys didn;t settle or they couldn;t keep them any longer then we would have them home. They we purely pets not for anything else! I made a special effort to get them both used to being handled and good with kids and eachother. Its hard to get placid roosters who let kids lift them! So sad about big Red I really liked him.

At least the other two boys Blue and Omlet are ok at the petting farm.

Good morning everyone and Happy Father's Day to all! Coffee is downed and I'll be making some blueberry jam today with what I picked yesterday. Some berries will go in the freezer for baked goods at a later date.

Hope everyone has a terriffic day and gets to do only what they WANT to do.

Happy Fathers day all the Dad's.

Hasn't been a particularly busy day. Not much to do in TX or at least this area. I'm not much for driving and getting lost. DW is not here or else we'd doing a lot more. Tomorrow is my last day, and DD came down. I'm taking everyone to a sit down rest. for lunch. Can't really do much with a newborn and mom is still in need of rest. We did go for a walk which was nice.

I do get tired but not sure if it's just bored.

Gardengirl - I"m hoping I don't miss strawberry time up in NY. I'm not sure if it's worth the time and effort to make jam. The recipe I have uses a lot of sugar. Still I prefer strawberry to grape.

Oesdog - I don't do well with folks who lie, so I would be very upset. Hope you do something about that dog. Heard that Darcy is having a time of teething also. Everything Jesse goes through Darcy is a week or two behind.

Take care folks

Rancher

Thanks for the support.

Yes it was sad about the boys - However I am a bit more worried about their Momma this morning.
Bertha has had an accident and hurt her leg/foot. I don;t know what happened just that there was a deal of feather flapping in the coop this morning when I went to open up!
When she came out she was limping. She can weight bare but only for a short time. She is eating and drinking ok. But I had to carry her out to the yard with the others. I put her in the shade and she is watching them scurry about. I am worried about her because she is such a big girl and so foot issues are big problems for her. I found her just now in a hole one of the other girls dug on her back with her feet in the air! She was stuck! I think she was trying to keep the weight off the leg and somehow lost her ballance! Poor thing.

I don;t think its broken or she wouldn;t walk on it. - Well more like hobble. Any ideas????

Oesdog - I love Bertha and don;t want to lose her.
