Hi there, folks. No coffee, but a nice, tasty beer right now. I need it after a busy day that included 2 hours at a Chucky Cheese birthday party. Do they honestly think they need to place noise makers at each table? Sample packs of asprin is a better idea. Good lord, was it LOUD! I also went to a woman's house that has a lot going on with her family and needs to go out of state and can't care for her chickens for a while. I bought two mixes with funny little poofs on their heads.

Math Ace, I do worry a little about bio security, but I try not to position anyone too close to the aviary. I know stuff can come in on shoes (and air borne). Most people that I invite are BYCers, and I am very specific about telling ones I' don't know personally that if their birds look sickly they can't come in.

I took one for the Marans team at the swap, Math Ace. I sold my beautiful FBCM. There was a woman there that had bought FBCM hatching eggs from all over, and kept only two hens and three roos she felt met SOP. Then one hen died. So I sold her Madelide for a good price, as well as future hatching eggs. She needed to be duplicated. It stung a little, but I know we will get some lovely babies.

I got a "Black Pearl Pepper" the other day. It is almost more ornamental, with little purple flowers and tiny black peppers. I haven't figured out when they are ready to use, yet. I also hadn't thought about germinating for the next planting yet, either. Maybe I'll put in a seed order this week.

Look what I hatched out this week: My first babies from my Rouen pair. And I got two more orders to fill. It was hard to sell them today, but they do sell well and pay the feed bill.

How is that broody leghorn doing? Do you still have her?

She is going to give me hatching eggs. Hopefully a little darker than what Madelide laid (although they did seem darker after she moulted). My crazy leghorn is still going strong, and was the only one laying while the rest were on strike this fall. I would have had to BUY eggs if it hadn't been for her and the duck. And she still lets my son just pick her up and drag her around to show people "his" chicken.

How's everyone doing? Good I hope. We have had some really nice weather here, t-shirt weather. Our niece in law (?), married to "the son we are glad we never had" had a 10lb baby the other night. A little boy.

Chicks - nice looking ducklings, Sounds like the swaps are working out well for you. There's a "local" starting up April 1 here. We are hoping to attend it. The better half thinks we should get some more birds. I think one more coop and we could incorporate the coops into a town: "Chicken Ville"

Snow drops are making their way here which is early for them. Some tree buds are starting to swell also.
We have those old fashion base board radiators for heat, and they are solid. Anyone know what they are made of? It seems like cast iron?

I grew up in a 100 year old house with cast iron radiators, IIRC most of them were about 3' tall and 3' wide. We once had to remove one and get rid of it, we dragged it out to the curb (it must have weighed close to 200 lbs) and it was gone within an hour. Scavengers/recyclers grabbed it.

Yea I know what you mean. I also had them, not as wide, maybe 12" - 14". These are different, about 8" high and 2" wide and the lengths vary. Looks like we have 2 different styles here at the house, made from the same material. One thing, they are nice and solid.

Yes, our current house has some electric baseboard heaters that size, but they are recent, not more than 25 years old, and they are tin surrounds with cheap heating elements inside. I'm sure the older ones were more solidly built. Do yours use electric or hot water?

Hi - Haven't been on for a few days so am hoping someone kept the coffee pot on for me???
I have got that thing other folk have talked about on different threads where you stop getting notifications. I have deleted my subscription for the coffee thread and reinstated it but I wont know if this works unless someone posts in the thread? If someone is on it would be great if you coulld post????

Anyhow things have been a bit stressed here so am away to rest.

Hay - great coffee !!!!!!! and guess what I am alive my little doggie came up on my screen again!!!!!!! All this change is really not good. Now I am having to unsubscribe and re- subscribe I am not a happy chick right now. Thanks for the coffee and everything.
We are going to view another rest-bite centre tomorrow so i am hoping this one is good as I am struggling with all the sleepless nights - though we bombed the little darling out with happy pills tonight and he is snorring like a pig!!!!!! I do hope it lasts more than 3 hrs!!!!!!!!! Please GOD!!!!!!!

Long old drive tomorrow so I need to hit the sack were 5-7 hrs ahead of you guys depending on where you are in the states. So it is near midnight here - thats when I turn into a pumpkin if I am not in my bed so I am away!
