So i thought i was in luck when i found a turkey sitting on a nest of 11. I tryed hatching them in an incubator last year and they all died with only 2 hatching and then dying. So i didnt know how long the turkey had been sitting so i candled 2 of her eggs, they had a dark mass in them but i couldnt make out a definite outline or movement. Now i found she has abandoned the nest, it was cold but ive stuck them in the incubator to see if i can save any(if they were alive in the first place) is there any chnace they will be alive?

Also, any idea why the turkey left the nest? We found her a few meters from it just standing against a fence, she wouldnt move and you could just walk over and pick her up! We took her home and tried to get her to eat. She wouldnt stand up or eat, or do anything but hiss when we touched her!?

she was probably weak from sitting on the nest for many days, she was hissing to tell you to go away and leave her alone. She probably would have resumed her nesting if you left her alone.

I just candled the turkey eggs after leaving them to warm up a bit and i saw them move!!! they were stone cold when i brought them in and they are still alive!? i didnt think that was possible? also i wonder if you could tell me how long they have to go before a hatch, i can see a clear outline on a couple of eggs, others are a little blurry, the black covers about 2 thirds of the egg, with quite a small air sac? any idea how long to go?
and i dont think she would have carried on nesting, the nest was stone cold and very easy to see, she also hasnt made any attempt to go back to the nest since we moved her.
thanks

not sure but if you can hear the poult making noise it wont be long. I pulled 6 eggs out of the nest of my hen after she left it. She had already hatched out 11 and 8 made it. She abandoned the nest after 2 days with the rest of her poults. I brought them inside and put them under a hen. Been checking on them for the past few days with no indication they were about to hatch. This morning two had hatched out the other 4 are quiet. i'll give them a couple more days. She was sitting on a nest that multiple hens were laying in so i figured we might have a split hatch.

im guessing saying they have at least a week before they hatch as there is still a lot of liquid around them.

i found something interesting in one of them, i thought it was a vein at first, a pretty thick one, it was black but it started wriggling and moving freely. It wriggled like a black worm and was pretty long, it didnt seem to be attached any part of the embryo, any idea what it is?
