Hi Everyone,
I have a few questions for anyone out there...Do the hens stay down in the run during the winter months or will they go up in the coop when they feel cold? Our coop has the run underneath and the coop area with the roost and where they lay is about 4 ft off the ground. Is that better and should I put any straw down on the run during the winter months?

They'll likely stay out most of the time except in really bad weather. Mine head into their coop only when it is extremely windy/rainy and by that I mean windy enough to push them sideways when they try to walk! They don't care for that! Milder storms/rain don't phase them at all.

You could put straw down if you wanted to, they'll probably really enjoy scratching through it. Or a flake of alfalfa now and then if you have it.
