How about Chanteclers? They're a canadian dual purpose breed, VERY cold hearty. My partridge Chantecler is about 6-7 years old now, and she still gives me an egg or two a week if the weather is nice. She's friendly and has tons of personality. Her roo (same breed) was the same way, hes still my all time favorite rooster (he died last year). Here's my old gal, Ethyl:
