Cold Weather Integration issue?

When I'm in that situation I wait until dark when they are easier to catch and toss them in the coop on the coop floor every night until they learn to go in on their own. I don't care where they sleep as long as it is not in my nests and is in the coop. They figure out where they will be the most comfortable in there until they mature enough to join the older ones n the main roosts.
I will follow that advice tonight. thank you.

does the rooster come out first?
No, our Delaware called Mama Chicken is always the first one out and he is second. That's his woman... He keeps a very close eye on her. They are always the last two in.

The funny thing about that Delaware is she was two weeks older than the Jersey Giant Cockerels when we got them and she would let them sleep under her wings. That's how she got the name Mama chicken. She always watched after them like a mother hen even at 3 weeks old, it was so amazing. She even protected them from a black snake when it attacked our chicks.

My coop they come and go, the first set of pullets one night just followed the flock in roosted on the ladder inside the coop, none of the pullets are laying yet. the second batch that was in quarantine for 2 weeks were having bit more issue, so last night as we are getting down to almost 0 before the wind chill factor. I put on the shelf in the other side of the coop a couple times during the day figured would be doing that for a few days at least to get it to be a habit but they realized that wasn't restrictive and had a couple more at night to keep em company. that night found a couple of the lower ranking 2 3/4 year old birds decided to join when I checked and everyone was happy with that arrangement. They've now figured out how to get up and down from that shelf as it's not one they can step up to like the perch in quarantine they could step up on to.

I forgot to say that usually when I add new pullets to my flock, I put them in the coop first thing. Usually they'll stay in there most of the day and come out or they won't come out until the next day, but they usually go in there at night the first night.

Initially I was planning on just locking them in the coop. Instead, I got advice to let them mingle while ranging. After about a week, the just followed the older pullets into the main coop. They roosted in the coop every night for 7-10 days, but then started sleeping outside in the run. I'm just going to move them in every night until they get it figured out.

Each device can be different. Different operating systems and browsers can work differently. I hit the "Account" tab at the top right of this page. When the screen pops up look below the "Settings" tab on the left and select "signature". Then type in what you wish.

there’s plenty of roosting space. The coop should hold 12 birds. 4ft /bird at 48sqft total. i have 20 linear feet of roosting bars.
Late to the game here...but...
Are there separate roosts...one just for the youngsters?
Also is the roost in the run higher than the ones in the coop?
