I have newly hatched ducklings. Can I move mothers and babies in to another building that is warmer after they have hatched some out.Two were dead outside of the nest I think they just chilled ,don't know though. It is quite cold at night and am not sure if they will be ok .It is so cold that mothers are just setting on them and not teaching to drink etc.I know they have a couple of days before food is needed. There are still eggs which probably won't hatch as the weather had gotten to single digits. They are muscovies by the way.I was just not going to move the nests before they hatched just let nature take it course but its all unnatural anyhow and mother nature can be brutal. Thanks in advance

I know this all to well, just did it almost 2wks ago. I had to wait till almost all the eggs hatched as my mama duck freaked OUT when i tried to move her beforehand. After that we moved, i couldn't install a heat lamp where she was and we were below freezing temps.

Can you candle the remaining eggs? we had one dud, it didn't make it, the other hatched. She started with 5 eggs, 4 lived and are now 2wks tomorrow and Thursday.

It's a challenge to move them well it was with mine but it was for the best, for everyone she was chilled too and as you said the babies needed to eat/drink soon.

Here she is with her little brood, earlier this week.

Thanks I think i will have to move them as you are right one of the mothers is shaking from the cold. The others followed their mother out the door took a 3 foot drop into the hay bounced and away they went .There was a cat waiting just outside so I put them back in.I never thought that the mother could bust out. There it is ......
Thanks
