I have noticed one of my girls lays eggs that are sensitive to temperature. That is to say that her eggs actually change colors before my eyes! I first noticed this as my finger and palm prints remained on the egg in a darker shade that the rest of the egg. And sometimes they are one color when first collected then change as time goes by. Has anyone witnessed anything like this before? I'm new to this whole chicken thing... Only have had my girls since April. And I honestly don't know what breeds I have! My husband just came home one day with 15 chicks from the local feed store and we've been learning as we go!

Not sure what to make of the eggs you described. What colors are they? Many people here on this thread can help you identify your chicken breeds if you post good photos of them.😊

Well I wanted to post a pic of her eggs, but it seems we've already eaten them. She didn't lay today. They are a lighter shade of brown and sometimes seems to have a "tie-die" effect. I'll see if I have any good pics of the girls to post...

Seconding @aart on the bloom--One of my gals laid a "pink" egg today which was a shade different than her normal reddish brown. The spots where my fingertips touched it revealed its original color.
Now I’m kind of jealous! My current layers are barred rocks so they lay boring light brown eggs. Never gotten to experience that!however, I have some EEs coming close to POL so maybe..

EEs are exciting because you never know what you're going to get! My mom has 6 and they lay blue, mint, pink, brown and cream eggs in varying shades thru the season. You'll have quite the pretty basket :)

Pink egg...slightly upped contrast to show better since my camera takes blueish pics. It's from a marans who are known to sometimes lay with heavy bloom (I've seen other with a purple coating). Langshan are also sought after for their bloom-heavy eggs. Heavy bloom can happy with any chicken egg tho so keep an eye out!
