Hi everyone
I have Lavender, Buff, White, Black, Blue and Splash Orpingtons. I understood genetics on lavender and blue colors. I would like to have some idea what I will get:
Buff + White = ?
Buff + Black = ?
Buff + Blue = ?
Buff + Splash = ?
White + Black = ?
White + Splash = ?
Of course, I will find it when I will breed them, but I would like to avoid " What the ....." colors.
Thank you for your help.

Buff + White = Mystery
Buff + Black = Black with buff leakage
Buff + Blue = Blues and blacks with leakage
Buff + Splash = Blues with leakage
White + Black = Mystery
White + Splash = Mystery

Sorry for silly question - what do you mean leakage? I saw this term many time, but I do not understand this.

It is when another color not typical of your color variety is showing. Normally this is on the chest of hens and the shoulders of roosters.

An example would be a blue rooster with red wing patches

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Genetics can be so fascinating. :thumbsup

I got a Porcelain boy recently... That's Lav cross buff or something to that effect. :love

Have you seen this feather color calculator? The second drop down dab is in English. It gives you basic outcomes of many colors but does not account for leakage. It may count dominant verses recessive white, if you know which you have. :pop

For example, it says... white + black equals all black. But dominant white + black equals all white. Let the fun begin! :wee

Some black birds can develop white feathers in their hackle area, I saw in Silkies. That would also be leakage.

Or a black feather on a white bird.

So mostly a specific color but not completely uniform. In my patterned breeds like my FBCM, some boys will display too much color on their chest or heading down their pajama pants. And I have seen hints of copper "leakage" around the edges of some back (or wing) feathers in my girls. These are traits I cull for (can mean rehoming) in order to keep as close to the standard of perfection for the breed and variety as possible in my stock. In the Marans, I sometimes would refer to it as mossiness, instead of a nice, crisp, solid black.

Can any Orpington Genetic Geniuses help me out? I have jubilee english orpington hens, The colouring is not my favorite... Any idea if adding in a different orp rooster will give me a good color or will I be stuck with mutts?

Mutts would be my guess... but I'm still learning about Jubilee and by that mean haven't genetically got a clue yet... same with my Speckled. :pop

Seems like maybe white???
