Color? Father?

This is a little blurb on them.... thought there are other sites as well: http://www.brakelhoen.eu/english.htm. Greenfire was offering them a few years ago...the silver and gold variety...until a bobcat supposedly took out their stock. The breeder my friend got my Braekel from might have received his birds from Greenfire; I'm not entirely sure. My friend also hatched a golden Braekel roo from him but I preferred the silver. So the red in this little guy either comes from the mom production red hen, or is a very coppery chick out of the BCM roo...I think. Wish I had your knowledge on genetics, Moonshiner. Thinking I'll just plague you anytime I have a question ;) Most of the BCM chicks I've seen photos of look nothing like the little chick but I found one in a thread on here where the chick had too much copper and looked very similar....

Where did you get your Braekel rooster from?
A friend bought eggs to incubate from a breeder. I don't have any additional info on the guy. She hatched one gold Braekel and 2 silvers. I chose this one and she adopted the other 2 out to a farm in NJ. A fox got those 2. My roo is 2nd in command to the BCM. He's a loud and ornery little thing and has recently taken to flogging me. WHich is new...he only ever went after my husband and kids. But it's a half-hearted attempt and it started after we dispatched 6 of his girls. Maybe he remembers I'm the one that removed them before they disappeared. Either that or he's just trying to get my attention. He never hurts me and is such a featherweight. But since he has gone after the kids, he's on thin ice :/ I pin him when he misbehaves and I've been spending more time with him and he seems to be back to his more gentlemanly self. Time will tell. If not, want a Braekel? LOL He's the little guy in my Avatar. That was him around 6-7 weeks when I first picked him up.

Cute little fella! :love

And sorry, I didn't know you two had history. :lau
Moonshiner has been helping me sort out the Sapphire Gem mystery...the roos are supposed to be blue barred but mine lost their barring around 3 weeks and it's only now starting to reappear as they approach their 8th week. Moonshiner informed all of us how it's supposed to work and my dang birds are intent on turning the whole genetics world upside down ;)

Here's my Braekel...hardly show quality. Way too much black as far as I can tell. Would love to get some Braekel hens...I've read they're great layers and that as dual purpose birds, the meat is a little gamey. Which I think I'd like. Hoping to pursue friend's contact next year to see if he has Braekel eggs available

I’d love to take him but unfortunately my town doesn’t allow cockerels or roosters :(

I was beginning to think some of your chicks must have alien DNA present. This little brown chick I believe has now confermed it.
You are ground zero for a hostile alien take over of all our flocks. Not certain how to stop you yet but I'll go stock up on aluminum foil now so at least I can line the inside of my coop.

I'm positively dying ROFL I needed that laugh <3

Well, he's still on the ice...hasn't fallen through yet...but he just went after me again so his time in this apparent alien ground zero of hostile feather-bottoms is quickly shrinking....

I suppose if I am able to persuade my frugal husband to keep her on as a layer, we'll find out soon enough. Really light egg would indicate Braekel and darker egg than she hatched from would indicate BCM. Of course, if Moonshiner's suspicions are right, they'll come out red and purple striped...and square :barnie
