Hi, so I used to know cockatiel genetics like the back of my hand. After coming across a few show quality orpingtons I'd like to learn them. So black rooster, lavender hen, lavender hen w/ splotching, a few hatchery quality buff hens. The lavender hen and one of the buffs went broody but all laid in the same area so not sure who's eggs. Side note I do have two black Australorp hens and two of the chicks were def. theirs (as the coloring dictated). The other 2 chicks started out black with a deep mahogany around their face, those have gone on to develop what I can only describe as more the look of a gold lace wyandott to varying degrees. So I'd assume possibly the buff hens? yet I'm not sure where the 'lace' is coming from?

What exactly do you mean by lavender with splotching?

Chickens from buff x black parents often get varying amounts of gold leakage, which often can resemble a messy pattern, usually concentrated near the chest. So yes, I would agree those chicks are most likely from your buff hens.

Are you assuming they're from the Australorps because of the chick color alone? Because if the chicks were black, they easily could've been from the lavender hens and black rooster as well.
