Ok i assume this is the right forum, but just this morning i have what i originally assumed to be black white crested Polish x EE chicks hatching. Welp, pretty sure the first is actually from our cochin based ON THE FEATHERED FEET! But, mom is a white cochin, and I assume dad must be a EE whith the silver gene as many of his chicks have matured to mostly 'white' even from our golden Calico princess and other red or tan hens some chicks end up white! Dad himself was a pale tan chipmunk who featbered out brown, then grew out whith in final molt. But theeeeese chicks ARE BLACK. Black, whith feathered feet. It looks a bit like my black Americauna babies actually. So could black be recessive? (I suck at genetics lol) 3 of the 4 babies hatching appear black but ive yet to produce a black chick from my boy till now, so is it on moms side? Do cochin also produce a mish mash of colored chicks like americauna when certain colors are used or does someone just have a suprise Black gene? The last 2 cochin cross chicks i hatched were WHITE! And missed the feathered leg gene! What is going on??
I actually broke my current phone yesterday so ill get pics of parents tommorrow.

Black is actually dominant. However, recessive white can cover black. If your Cochin is white then it would produce black chicks.
White crested black polish also express black.
Wait, are you saying the EE is white? Likely he is dominant white, which would produce some white chicks, but he only expresses one gene, meaning he can produce both black and white.

Black is dominate. Your recessive is the cochins white.
Cochins have recessive white so it takes two copies to show.
With your cross the offspring are only getting one copy so it won't be expressed. She sounds to be black under her white so without the chicks having two copies of the white to cover it on the chicks their black is being expressed.

I'm more so interested in the rooster now.
I assume dad must be a EE whith the silver gene as many of his chicks have matured to mostly 'white' even from our golden Calico princess and other red or tan hens some chicks end up white! Dad himself was a pale tan chipmunk who featbered out brown, then grew out whith in final molt.
This is interesting and makes no sense to me.
Any pics of him back when he had color and/or as a chick?

@The Moonshiner i did until my original phone broke the other day, but Easter eggers tend to have a 'chick' color ive seen, often whith chipmunking or partial chipmunking. then they have a very striped/ muttled first set of feathers and then at around 6 weeks theyre adult coloration comes in possibly really different from what ive seen. He was a biege chick whith common brown chipmunking as a baby, then his striped feathers were a muddy brown, then his adult coloration ended up mostly white but whith copper spots on wings, stripey black mane, and black tail, he looked identical to his brother as a chick, bjt his brother turned out a golden red sooo??? I have no idea what hoovers breeds their Easter Eaggers whith i had one of his babies turn out blond whith a faded chipmunking, then he developed those 'stripes' then faded away almost completely to whiteeven though his mom was a golden calico princess so i doubt she had white in her. Honestly these wierd color changes are really challenging when people ask me, What will they look like when theyre older? And im like 'take your pick of the flock man, cause idk! :/'

Sorry i hsve to use my reaaaly old phone to take pics for the moment so its not the clearest and rooster in question wont hold still....still upset i cant get ahold of his baby pics

Your rooster has a Silver Columbian pattern, yes one can create a solid white bird based on Silver and other columbian restrictors, but I have yet to see one(does not mean the genetics are not there to produce such bird)

Since white birds can be created different genes(recessive white, recessive albino, dominant white, Silver restricted columbian) when you cross them together they will not always result in white birds

Db alone will produce Black Tailed White on Silver base, you can see the effect on the Silver Pencilled pattern(eb/eb, Db/Db, Pg/Pg), if they lacked the pattern gene the hens would have been black-tailed whites too.

@nicalandia thank you so much for that info! That explains some of the patterns the babies have matured into and thier color in general! Colombian haha, ive never owned a bird whith Colombian patterning so that explains why i could not for the life of me figure out what his pattern was thanks for all the info guys! This gives me stuff to think about and use in reference to any more mix babies we have. Our cochin and a POLISH both went broody so well see what come out in a few weeks our polish girls first attempt at motherhood, but so far she seems super dedicated to her nest even in spite of bossy higher ups pestering her so hopefully her mom skills will be on par as well!
