The black in the roosters breast- I can not remember what is causing the expression of black; I know there is a genetic reason, but it will not come into my head. I have notes on the subject and will have to find them. Most black tailed reds carry the columbian gene which usually clears the black from the breast. It may be some combination of the mahogany gene and the columbian gene.
