The mother appears barred and the chick doesn’t, so I’m going to say pullet.Hello! I know this is an old post but a similar question. I have a chick I am pretty sure is the result of RIR Roo over lavender hen. I will post a picture of the probable parents and chick. Any thought on gender?
The mother is definitely confusing me. Her Mom looks like her but has lacing the inside of her feathers are brown but the outside is blue. I'm really hoping it's a pullet. Chicken genetics are hard to understand. Here is the "grandma."The mother appears barred and the chick doesn’t, so I’m going to say pullet.
I was saying pullet because a barred mother always passes barring to her sons, but not her daughters. So, if bred to an unbarred rooster, only the sons will be barred. The chick pictured doesn’t appear to be barred, though sometimes it’s hard to tell with blue. The mother is blue barred. The mother is definitely confusing me. The male was RIR. There is brown/copper on the chicks breast. It's also 3/4 the size of the others.I was saying pullet because a barred mother always passes barring to her sons, but not her daughters. Still looks unbarred. I’m pretty confident you have a pullet there. The male was RIR. There is brown/copper on the chicks breast. It's also 3/4 the size of the others.
