Ok...I bought a dozen FBCM and a dozen Cuckoo Marans eggs, also bought a dozen call duck eggs. Met the guy and picked them up, eggs had condensation on them, i didn't think anything about it. Hatch was terrible, only 8 chicks survived the hatch, chicks were dying after zipping and quitting early. Anyway, to the point...I opened the eggs that quit and I had about 4 yellow chicks in what were supposed to be FBCM and cuckoo eggs. Now the surviving chicks, 4 of which are supposed to be FBCM are getting feathers and look nothing like the older chicks I have. They have what appears to be red lacing/barring on their feathers, my others are black with white on their wings. Have I been hoodwinked? Should these chicks have red lacing/barring at 2 weeks on their wings? having gotten yellow chicks in some of the eggs, I will probably NEVER buy from the guy again, but if these aren't what I paid for, then i'm going to be really mad.

I have some FBCM chicks that are about two weeks old right now. Here is a link to them:

The black ones with the yellow butts are the blacks. The grayer ones are the Blue Coppers. There is also a Splash and Wheaten mixed in there too! I don't have any Cuckoo's but I have seen pics of them and they have black/white feathering just like when they are full grown. It doesn't sound like you got what you paid for!! I would go egg his house with the remaining ones that didn't hatch. Just kidding of course but it would make you feel better!!! HTH

One of my 3 week old Black copper Marans chick has the same coloration coming in on the wings. I believe that is why they are called black copper, due to that coloration... I may be wrong though.. anyone else??

No, There should be no copper on the wings. They may have a white spot on the wings while in the juvenile stage, but that should go away. On the hens the only copper should be around the neck like a collar. I also got the same shaft from an ebay seller doing pre-orders. Out of 2 dozen eggs I got 2 that may be legit BCMs the rest where hybrids or even yellow. Needless to say I was not happy.
