color? on tom

This is my 4 year old tom turkey. Any idea on his color. When crossed with a BBW they produced a hen that looks like an Oregon Gray color wise. I thought he was a Narragansett but when comparing with other Narri photos his wings have much more white in them. Is he some other color or just a highly white Narragansett?

A Royal Palm is a turkey with black-wing base genes, two gray genes, and two Narragansett genes. The bird you have has the body color of a royal palm, but barred wings. I have seen turkeys like this before, but didn't know the parentage, so could not be sure of teh genotype. My suspision (sp?) is that it is a royal palm with only one (or none) black-based genes, so the wings are barred. I would guess that the bronze base also colors the tail.

When crossed with a BBW, the offspring would lose the contribution of the Narragansett genes, because they are recessive. I would also expect the C gene (white) in the BBW to be dominant over the gray gene, and the offspring would look white, But if the gray gene is showing through somehow, the offspring would look like Oregon Gray. I'm not sure that broad-bresated whites are CC (white,white) because BBW are hybrids to start with. If your BBW was actually Ccg (white and gray), then offspring would be expected to look like Oregon Gray (at least half of them would).

I am crossing colors right now to get Golden Phoenix. Some of my poults next spring will be bronze-based royal palms. It will be interesting to see if they have the brown tails.

He came from a neighbors mixed flock of interesting colors. Since I'm just interested in pretty turkeys and not a pure color he'll do fine. Just trying to guess what his genotype is so I can guess the color of his future offspring.

Looks like a narragansett to me.
But if when bred to a white you produced an Oregon gray type then he must carry a cg gene. This is the gray or palm gene.
By more white in the wings are you meaning a few palm like secondaries? Or just lighter colored, he may just be sun bleached if you keep yours outside alot.

If you can get a much more closeup pic of him that would be most helpful.

First off here I want to make a correction, the white gene is listed as c not C. When crossing this Narri tom to a white, the female offspring WOULD express the ng gene. Also the c white gene is not dominate over cg gray. None of the offspring could come out white in phenotype here unless the tom carried c white.
Correct that cgc birds will still have an oregon gray phenotype.
"All" white turkeys are cc even BBW. If they were cgc they would not be white.
