Color possibility?

I'm no expert but from what I've heard, blue is diluted black. So, the "gray" parent contributed black (but not the dilution gene) to the chicks.

See in dogs (which I know is different....a dilute can't produce a black cause it's already dilute and you can't reverse the dilution) but I'm so new to chickens that have no clue if this rule applies to chicks or not. Thank you though....I hope you're right!
 
I know that when you pair blues, you get black, blue, and splash offspring. That tells me color and dilution are separate.
