I just lost five ducklings died and wanted to do a necropsy to see if I need to burn my brooder(joking sort of). However, Colorado wants $100!?? Is that a normal sum? I read that some of states do them for free.

I live near our Ag lab here in Ohio but am not sure what they would charge. Luckily I have had very healthy ducks and have never had to find out either. Hopefully someone else on here knows what their state charges.

I’m wondering if I could have another state do it? I’ve heard of others doing soil tests out of state (Colorado also charges a slightly more reasonable sum $30) to get it for free.

From what I gather from our Ohio site, I cannot find any fees but they do tell that if you decide to get it done out of state you have to keep the bird cool, not frozen and contact the state to see what condition they need to get the bird in. I guess the temperature must affect the outcome of the test. Good luck. I saw where your state charges 100 dollars but could not find the cost list for my state.

UC Davis does ours for $25 for up to 2. $100 is steep 🥴
