Colorado Shooting - How horrible!

Gun bans are for the law abiding public as they only apply to those that are law abiding. As I have said before the UK has given away rights that we have fought to keep in exchange for a feeling of safety. The folks that want guns or need them in the UK have them that is just a fact. The UK citizens that just want to own one either leave or are burdened with a lenghty permit process. It may be that there is not much game hunting in the UK and from what I have read whackers don't need a gun but a stick.

Gun sales always increase after talk of bans.

Now I know you've been joking all along.

A better comparison with the US might be gun crime statistics for the UK since hand guns were banned.
That would be filtering the results to fit your opinion. Death is death. You are trying to use the tool as a filter to make the tool look like the cause. We are already filtering it to much by only talking about murders.

Fact is that the murder rate in Canada an the UK are about the same. One bans guns pretty badly an one, they are pretty easy to get. Then the US murder rate is higher an we have very loose gun laws. Then further south, Mexico has the strictest gun laws around an the murder rate 3 times ours

So lets drop the scale. Texas, a country un to its self shares a border with Mexico that has no wall. People freely walk back an forth. Mexico, they ban guns an Texas (the gun state). The murder rate in Mexico is around 18 per 100K people. The murder rate in Texas is 5.4 per 100k. Sounds like the gun ban is working well for Mexicans. I will keep my guns.

And how well is Britain faring against knife violence? They sell stab proof knives over there. I've heard of bans on knives over 4". People that want to hurt or kill are going to find ways to do so.

Of course. I worked that out for myself already. The question is, how do you minimise the risk of that happening. I suggest that the more lax the laws on carrying weapons the more likely you are to have killings. The issue at the moment is how to reduce the risk of mass murders.

Well, we are all filtering according to our views and experience, are we not?. Nothing wrong with that.

I read somewhere that a lot of guns bought legally in Texas are sold on to Mexican drug lords. Is that possibly correct? If so, it's not surprising that Mexico has a high gun death rate.

Nitt Romney is apparently making a mit of himself in London at the moment. That's a general observation, not a political one. He needs a course on how to make friends and influence people, they are saying.

Mexico has the option to guard there borders. But if the guns were the issue Texas would be the one with high murder rates. They have the same criminals an drugs, they just have more guns...

Oh an I have been giveing as unfiltered numbers as I can find, no need to filter to fit my view.

Dont know what he is doing over there but you asked what the politicians were going to do. Nothing cause we the people will not vote for them if they do.

Now that we are back to what the government is going to (try) to do...

A amendment to the Cyber-security Bill was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.).

Quote:

I dont even expect the amendment to even be voted on.

Texas and Mexico do not have the same drug criminals. Texas and Arizona guns are going to Mexico and into the hands of the drug lords. The drug lords control much of the border areas in Mexico, with the police and military being ineffective in controlling the drug lords.

Mexico has a much higher murder rate as a result. And Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in the world as a result.

The simple fact of the matter is that American guns and money are the fuel for the drug wars in Mexico. American demand for drugs makes the market. American guns sent across the border help arm the criminals.

In the US we still have rule of law. Our cities aren't ruled by criminals. Our police and military are not in the hands of the criminals. Guns are certainly a large part of the issue in Mexico. Americans demand for drugs is an even bigger part of the issue.

And in the US, jailing drug offenders isn't working. Until there is some attempt at changing societal attitude toward drugs, getting help for those addicted, and addressing the issues that lead to drug abuse, the problem isn't going to get better. Being "tough on crime" isn't working, and the drug war is being lost.
