For anyone contemplating ordering chicks, be careful. I hear stories like these every so often but this one surprised me a bit.

Even with fertile eggs, you ship on a Monday, MAYBE Tuesday......

Same here. Their website even stated that their first shipping date of 2013 was January 28th.

I received an email solicitation from Ideal saying they had an overhatch of white egg layers that have to be shipped today, $1.75 for pullets, $1.25 for straight run, order has to be called in, in case anyone is interested.

X2, something about this isn't seeming right. Friday is a very odd day to ship. There are several places in the country that have bad shipping with chicks just because it takes too long for the chicks to get there. I'd guess this might be more the problem. Just because they're shipped on Friday doesn't mean that they're going to sit around all day Sunday. The mail is still processed and moved on Sundays, it's just not delivered.

Thinking about it a bit, Friday is weird but maybe not too weird. My first order of chicks this season shipped on a Wednesday, as have all of my other shipments from Ideal. Unfortunately, there were 11 deaths due to (IMO) bad packing of the box, too much ventilation was provided. The replacement chicks came the next week, but they shipped on Tuesday. I was totally surprised by that. The only thing I can think explains the different shipping days is the babies who hatch early or late.

I had tried to get in touch with you about Marans pullets this fall, as per your request, but when I didn't hear back from you I sold them. I have some upcoming pullets that we'll be going through in March as they come into their first lay (hopefully, as Marans can be slow to drop that first one!). I also have some coming 2 year old reject hens if you are interested - I have in my notes that you were after them just for laying and didn't care if they were up to SOP..............feel free to PM or drop an email!

Just found another one on Incubators Anonymous that they were expecting chicks on Monday from mcmurry and USPS lost the box. They are shipping the replacements Saturday. :/
