Colorado

Chick Burbs, Congrats! Nice pictures showing how they actually do it! What is the wire for? Is there anything you can do to help facilitate the yolk being absorbed??? Too many questions, I KNOW

Sheila, Welcome, several people here in CO have silkies, as you probably already know!

Wendell, It takes me three or four tries to log into FB, I only go there every three months or so!!! lol

Thanks for the update and pics Shylee! Looks like a cool set up.

Hi everyone
I have a chicken whose wing is hanging and she is limping on the side. Called and the vet is closed. What should I do? I brought her in and put her in a box so she can't move around. Help.......

i've never had to deal with an injured chicken before.... maybe tie a dish towel around her body and wing to sort of stabilize it so she can't move it in case of injury and make sure to put some vitamins and electrolytes in the water. Also offer her some scrambled eggs. I've heard the protein boost is good to give during an injury/illness. Good luck! Hope someone else might be able to give some more suggestions.

Do you see any visible wounds. Can you move the wing and does it cause her pain? So I guess the real question can you see a cause or is everything internal?

I have the same thing going. Won't stand on leg or wing will not lift. She is out of the flock but I see no real injury and she seems to be happy as usual.

No visible injuries. She was limping and dragging her wing when they came out to the yard. I can move her wing and her foot. I checked for any cuts that might make her limp but foot looked ok. I have her in a box. Where she can't move. She is blind in one eye so she is my special chicken and is super sweet.

These are the two in the brooder so far. The metal wire divider was in the bator to keep the two chicks in the Marans eggs seperate but I couldn't fit the tupperware for the little one with the problem in with that there so it was removed. A hatch expert on the shipping eggs thread recommended I put the chick in a plastic dish with a damp paper towel to keep the sac from ripping on the grating. I took these two out while I was at it.

Tracie, Hopefully with rest and some specail care, she will be ok.

Chick Burbs, Ah, sounds like a good idea. Hope your other little one will be ok. Love the pic of the two, so tiny!

bifloon, Hope yours will be ok too. What on earth are these chickens doing to injure themselves???

I may/may not have just purchased 18 hatching eggs... At least they were only 3.50 for 18! They are coming from a mixed flock of Americana and black copper Marans. They are coming from a local lady in fountain I found on Craigslist.
