Colorado

Yes, sorry, should have looked at my instructions first to get the correct name for what I was asking. It says to snap a chalk line and then mark the cuts with a square, which makes sense, I just wondered whether there were things we should watch out for while we mark and make the cuts.
It's fairly straightforward. I measure two rafter tails, snap a chalk line and use a speed square to mark them. Only thing I can think of that can go wrong is to make sure you cut them the same size as your soffit material. I usually make it just a eighth or so bigger then the soffit material so that the soffit slips right in and I don't have to force it. Then caulk the seams. Make sure you take into consideration the board you nail to the end of the rafter tails. (The one that ties all of the rafters together). That is part if the overall length of the soffit.
i am hopelessly addicted to this site. i have been lurking for over a year. chicken math...uggh. Its probably good that I'm working tomorrow so no DUH swap for me! What is it: desperation for spring? I am looking to add show/breeder quality silkies. We started with several from NC, and all but 2 that made it into the coop have been picked off by the local fox. I think we have that problem under control now that we have electrified the fence. I want to have a fighting chance at the shows- my son picked silkies as his breed of choice, and i would like him to experience the whole showmanship thing!! Ahh... to live vicariously through him! I never had the chance!!! Silkies are tough in the CO show circuit. But we do have fun! I would like to try my hand at breeding these girls too! Thats gonna take a few more.... Anyway... til next time! sheila
Welcome to CO BYC!!!!!

Ah, the 2x4 they call the subfacia, right? Good tip, I probably would have missed and had to re-do. Thanks!

Not so far but I am never using chicken wire for a separator again. Now I keep worrying that a chick will get stuck between it and the wall.

Oh yeah, I would too. The gal I bought the Silkie eggs from said she builds little separators out of hardware cloth, like 1/2" or 1/4", and covers any sharp edges with masking tape. Like little baskets that sit on the mesh. Also said she lines the bottoms with that rubbery shelf liner, an idea I really like and will use. I had intended to hatch in cartons as you are, but she strongly prefers lying them on their sides, and since she has long success that way, I will do so as well.

Wrote down my viable count, I have 4 Lavender, 3 Porcelain, 2 White, and 1 each Buff and Blue Splash. I originally was going to separate them in the hatcher, and still want to, but it will depend on where I'm at with everything else. Porcelain and White could be really tough (probably impossible) to tell apart at hatch, and even a light Lavender could be really similar. I think I'm almost exactly a week behind you (set at 4:30 am two weeks ago). The rest were not even possible hatches, so they are removed. I would have liked for the two Paints to be viable, but alas they are not. Still not bad. If they hatch. The 11 are all looking good today.

Good news, the wire is light enough that they can slide it. No one will get stuck in it. :)

It decided that my password wasn't correct, even though it was the same one I have used for years. So I tried to reset it. Didn't work. So I had to give a different email address. No problem. All done...... But wait...now I can't access my facebook account for 24 hours!

Oh well. I have a family coming over in a little while for a Windy Ridge Dominiques chicken tour and learn about chickens so they can get some soon.

Technology is one of those eternal love/hate relationships I think. Sorry it's being a pain.

I now have three chicks but one has a little bit of yoke sac still protruding. For now I am just watching but what should I do if it doesn't finish absorbing it soon?
