Colorado

I just found this link and it is the most information I have been able to find about keeping chickens in unincorporated El Paso county. I live in widefield so it qualifies as this. So technically I am allowed 2 chickens.. BUT it states they do not enforce this law as long as you own under 10. Also it makes no mention as to roosters. So I am allowed to own a roo!!

You can actually call the El Paso County Development Services at 719-502-6300, and they will tell you exactly what your regulations are in your area. They are open Monday-Thursday until 4:30pm. I just gave them my address, and they look it right up. The whole call took maybe 5 minutes. You may want to double check that just in case.

Unfortunately, I would say that's definitely a roo.

Your duckling will be lonely, so I would get another one and then separate them from the chicks.

Ducks are so hard. I still wish someone would have told me 'No!" when I brought my 3 home. They are almost a year now and still as beautiful as ever and very, very fat. But they are very messy, they have watery poo and tons of it. They also need more care than the chickens in the way of insuring they have a clean water source. Kiddee pools are great until you are carting water and cleaning in the blowing snow, twice a day because even in a small rubber container, they get in and splash all over the place.

But they are the first out in the morning and the last in. They love even the crappy weather. They were swimming yesterday in the blizzard and just sitting outside with their heads in their wings. I keep hoping to find a duck lover for mine where they will be safe from predators but maybe have their own pond. Fingers crossed that eventually, I'll either find someone or get up enough to build them one.

They do need companionship. My little runner is fine hanging out with the chickens but the pekings prefer their own kind.

Yeah, I am starting to think that I may have made a mistake. He's so cute and sweet though. I don't think I could handle having another one and doubling the mess. Another friend of mine got 2 ducks when I got mine, but her's are a lot smaller. My duck is already about the size of chihuahua! Even though he's way bigger than her ducks she said that she would take him.

Any ideas about cleaning off the chicks? Or should I just leave them?

Sorry to spam the CO thread with this but very little info has been posted on this... More digging, I found that the resolution did in fact pass on the 5th of this month. You can now own up to 10 chickens in unincorporated El Paso county. No roosters are permitted. You are also now allowed to have a hobby farm on 2.5 acres down from the previous 5 acres.

Edit: this passed YESTERDAY the 24th!

X2. It depends on where you are, and what your zoning is.

Fortunately not so much as of yesterday. Unless an HOA conflicts, all of unincorporated El Paso county is now 10 hens allowed no roosters. If you are on 2.5 acres or more you are qualifies for hobby farm status and there is no restrictions.

Adam and I are in Colorado Springs (I'm actually in Security); I'm not sure what zone he's in but I'm in RS-5000, residential suburban. 10 chickens, NO ROOSTERS. Definitely check with HOA's....they can be downright unpleasant to deal with...

Chickens are considered livestock according to city/county ordinances.
