Yup! I am in Bailey. Why do you ask trochefarms?
Just bought some land down there and hope to make it our perm home soon. Was wondering how garden-friendly it is. I hear there is a really short growing season.

No roosters,
No roosters....![]()
Mine are about 1 week younger than yours. I hope I don't have any roosters!
Hey everyone! I've got a question and hopefully someone can help me out.
I have 12 chicks and a duck. I've been keeping the duckling in the brooder with the chicks. He is SOOOO messy. He's been getting all of the shavings soaking wet, and I have to change them daily. Question 1: Will the duck be fine in his own brooder/bin?
Question 2: I went in there yesterday and all of the chicks look like they are wet but they are kind of greasy/sticky. I tried to kind of rinse one of with just a warm wet paper towel and it seemed like it just made the poor girl crunchy and didn't remove any of the "dirty" stuff. I used the blow dryer to dry her off, but her fuzzies seemed caked down still. Suggestions? Is this normal? I can post a pic when I get home if necessary.
Thanks in advance!

Your duckling will be lonely, so I would get another one and then separate them from the chicks.
I MIGHT keep a rooster if I can get away with it.(Not sure what to oridance is in my town) Plus if my sebright turns out to be a rooster, it's gonna be really hard to get rid of him. She (for now) is the sweetest one of the bunch.I was thinking no roosters until i heard from one of the ladies i gave some straight runs too that one of her roos is worth some major fundage for his color/texture of his feathers. So now I'm thinking that maybe roosters aren't all that bad. =)
So I have some phoenix/silkie/maran crosses, hatch date tomorrow. So far, one of the phoenix eggs has pipped and one of the marans. This is the first time I left them in egg cartons so we'll see how that works.
My last hatch seems to be all silkie or frizzle crosses with ee and marans hens. They are beautiful. I'm trying to figure out which I am keeping and not keeping. So if anyone will be looking for some younger chicks, let me know.

Dog box at night\In the run during the day.![]()
I don't get why roosters are such a big deal. Dogs are louder than most roosters. I just like having a rooster around as they do try very hard to protect the girls.
Speaking of barnyard things... how is it possible to still have a fly buzzing around?
