I got my second day in a row of six eggs, from six hens. The one my cochin laid today is pink. I find that kind of strange. This is her 4th egg since coming out of molt. I guess I have happy chickens at the moment even though it has been cold.

Pink only looks pink until it is washed. Pink is a brown egg with a heavy dose of bloom. Still beautiful eggs though. I love my pink ones.

Wasn't me but I was going to ask about your Marans-mix eggs, just ordered an incubator today

I've upped my eggs to $4 a dozen as feed costs have gone up. Just let me know.

I have marans crosses that were hatched yesterday. $6 a chick or 3 for $15. I also have some older ones but am waiting to see how they feather out first. So far, the older guys are definitely silkie mixes as their feathers are beautiful in texture. That is what I'm seeking in my landrace flock.
I wish we were closer. I can't get down there until the weekend. I have a broody I need to get some day old chicks for. Yours will be too old

Soooo,  I think I have a cuckoo marans roo that has flown under the radar for ohhh,  I don't know, 10 months.  They look so close to the females and I've never heard him crow but he does have sizeable spurs.   Now I have to see how many of the others, that aren't laying, are indeed roos and not hens.  So now I wonder if that could explain the difference I have seen in some of the chicks.  He is usually only with the cuckoo marans he broodered with.  So I wonder now if the reason so many of my marans eggs look like marans isbecause they are pure marans and not just a cross between black marans.

Margie-  I have another handsome roo like your handsome man, if you are interested.  =)   If not, I'm tempted to keep him and the other roo and use them as the next generation.

So far, my foundation flock is cuckoo and black marans with easter eggers... the second generation is silkie and frizzle.  The third, I hope will be a few more generations of the starting flock.   I'll add to genetics, I hope, by the ones coming in from Duane.

Ohhh,  in about another 2- 3 months, I'll be looking for homes for my older hens.  I understand chicken math and of the babies I keep, I have to find homes for some of the older ( under a year)  ones.    I suspect by May/June I'll have more of an idea.

Did you end up with anything in a bantam size?
