how old? the red lamp is killig the ability to see if there is any red in the comb or wattles. i can't see anything that suggests roo, but it also appears to be very young still.

Would you take a male and a female?
Is it ok to have two females & one male?

The lighting its hard to tell. Pictures of where his/her feathers are coming in will help. The males are going to have a lot more white barring & the females will have more black barring.

The other 3 I think are no good but will check again on day 10 (Friday) and decide then.....
YAY! for chickies. I've got chick fever bad.

Onstad1 there's a vet on the south side (actually more like Security/Widefield/Fountain area) right on 85/87, James Graf, I think his practice is Fountain Creek or Fountain Valley Vet?  Great vet, very caring, very honest, I used him until I moved to Pueblo, and even after that took a cat to him to be euthanized when she was at death's doorstep, and he was incredibly kind, waited for my son and Bob to get there to say goodbye even though he most certainly needed the exam room for other patients.

I also like Dr. Graf as well. My MIL uses that office, and I did as well till I moved to Peyton.

Newbie question! I've had my flock of 7 completed since Sunday. 6 of the birds are much more active than my 7th, the black cochin. She sleeps a lot but will still walk around and get her food and water. She will do the beak pecking thing that they all do, whether she starts it or not. She's just not as active. Should I be concerned or is it a breed/individual personality thing?

She is probably just fine and more mellow. They are all different, even within the same breed. As long as she keeps eating and drinking and growing at her own pace, no worries apparent.
x2 - certainly worth keeping an eye out but Cochins are generally more mellow than some others. I have one in my laying flock (we call her Li'l Lotta') and have some shipped eggs in the incubator now, because we are so fond of the one we have.
