Colorado

Holy cow, I miss one week and I feel like a stranger on this thread! So many new people!

Any who, someone was asking about re store. There is another re store in woodland park. It's about 30 minute drive from I-25 and 24.

Update on my chicks: they are all growing well and feathering in nicely.. Except the 2 cuckoo Marans. If ever there was to be chickens that would make me not want to own chickens these two would be the ones. They have pasty butt every single day. They are almost 3 weeks old now. Every day!! I clean them every night when I get home from work and I even tried trimming their feathers around their butt. I tried acv, molasses, switching to mash instead of crumbles. Nothing has worked. They are also growing much slower then the other chicks. They still look like chicks. The others are all feathering in nicely. And they are also much smaller... I am hoping they grow out of this as I am getting tired of wiping chick butt..

On to other news. The eggs in the bator are looking great! Just candled tonight and 10/11 are for sure viable. The other is questionable. Lock down is sneaking up on me.. My only concern is that my bator only holds water in its reservoir for 3 days before it goes dry... Since I have no window to check I read that you are not supposed to open the bator until 1 day after hatch day.. I might just top off really fast after the first day of lockdown.

we got two cuckoo Marans from them too one had pasty butt too but she did not make it :(. poor girl. her sister tho is doing okay. one of the production reds from elezibeth go it to so we gave all of them a little bit of plan yogurt.so far its looking good and no more pasty. i hoping it does not happen again

LOL FIRST words out of Bob's mouth - don't bring any new ones home! I have no plans to do so. My oldest pullets will be 6 weeks old this weekend, they look like little hens already - just amazing - no matter how many times I see it, I can't believe how quickly they go from chicks to chickens. I'm on the fence about whether to bring any of the younger ones, I guess the swap is in the parking lot, which makes it tough to keep younger ones warm enough. Three weeks is getting close to not needing heat, I guess it depends on how cold it is that morning.

My plan was young ones would stay in the car and only come out if someone was interested (sign next to the bigger ones) but it looks like my littlest will be sold out before then so my youngest will be almost three weeks. Oldest will be over 4 weeks. :) Need to double check ages before I go...

I also got 2 cuckoo Marans from Elizabeth. 1 is very sickly this week. I keep expecting her to be dead in the morning. I have been dosing her individually with rx strength Sulfadimethoxine (for coccidiosis) and karo syrup. She seems to perk up by the afternoon, and looks like she is eating. I am adding probiotic too.
I may just be prolonging her death. It would seem this batch we all seemed to get from Elizabeth is just not well!

with all the snow we've had lately, i'm sure they all have a fair amount of shipping stress because of the cold.

Dnetschke,

I'm so jealous! Nice job on the coop!

My chicks are outgrowing their brooder, and I haven't even started construction on the coop! Do you have pictures of yours? I've seen a lot of comments about it.

I'll try to get some pictures up tonight. I get off late most of the week, so that makes it hard. Although daylight savings is helping.

i need a bigger coop. hubby und i are thinking on getting a heartland shed kit and converting it in a coop. has any one done this?

Dnetschke, glad to hear your coop ist done, which wire are you planing to use for your run out of?

Hello all. I thought I would introduce myself on the Colorado thread. I live on the edge of Broomfield/Adams and just bought 9 chicks last weekend. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting help on my chicken adventure!

It took a lot of searching for me to find this out: You actually won't be able to add a signature until you have a certain amount of posts.Eventually the option will just show up under your profile
