Hi All,
I am trying to catch up tonight on all of the posts.... I've been crazy busy trying to get the new garden built.

Black Copper Marans... there is a nice lady named Holly in Black Forest who sells her eggs. I have her email address if anyone wants it.
She sold me 15 eggs for 20 dollars and I got 10 chicks to hatch. I believe she has a BCM rooster and 4 blue copper hens. I hatched 4 black, 3 greys, 2 whites and a splash.

baby monitor with chicken web cam pictures....

this is inside the coop, the perch, and the nesting boxes.

here is a picture from outside the run...

we put up a small board with plexiglass around the camera to keep it dry.
Is the system wireless? What is the distance it can transmit? pretty dog gone cool. Good idea. I have two motion activated 10W LED lights at the coop doors to deter predators. So far so good. A camara would be a good thing.

I bet your "greys" will actuallyt be blues! Nice hatch rate!!!

HI Samsr
yes the whole system is wireless. I think we can go 50 feet. We are just about finished building the new coop and will see how far they will go.

Is anyone here going to participate in this year's Take A Peak Chicken Coop Tour? We went last year and loved it. We went to 11 of the 19 homes on the tour and met the chicken owners, saw their coops and asked lots of questions. The tour went from Black Forest all the way through town to Manitou Springs. This years tour is going to be Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19. It is totally free. The web site is www.takeapeakcooptour.com It was such a good way for newbees to get their feet wet and really see how different areas of town are dealing with different predators.

I would need to go 100-150 feet from coop to house and through the wall. I am looking at a few online now.
My wife told me about this tour this evening and asked if I was going to put my coop on the tour. I dont think it is quite ready for that. It would be a good way to get ideas though.

Hi everyone!
I'm supposed to get my very first chicks next week!!! I'm super excited except now I'm reading about salmonella infections in children. I have a seven month old baby and now I'm nervous. Any advice to calm my nerves? I think I'm probably making a mountain out if a mole hill, it seems pretty rare. I appreciate your help!

I read the article you saw. I would never tell you not to worry and not to wash your hands after handling your birds, but I wouldn't obsess about it. When I had my birds tested for NPIP certification I had them tested for the type of salmonella that can be passed to humans, and they tested clean. It was an extra charge I was glad to pay - Kristy asked me if I planned to sell eggs, and I said I would like to down the road, but that in the meantime, WE eat the eggs, and I'd like that extra measure of confidence :) Since then I have advertised eggs for sale for three months and have given away a lot of eggs and never sold a dozen, but I know they tested clean. That doesn't guarantee they're still clean, and I will have them tested again this year for it because I like to know rather than hope they're clean.

The likelihood of getting salmonella from your own backyard birds is pretty remote, but it is possible, so follow basic handwashing just as you would after handling raw chicken from the supermarket and you should be fine.
