Colorado

I will try to find the woman in Black Forest with the BCM. THanks!

The craigslist ad in Beulah has me fighting the impulse to buy a few - dh would literally strangle me, lol.

Another question - How does Sand do in CO, in the coop and run? Specifically with the high winds in Pueblo West....
Let me know if you find BCM eggs, I've been looking as well

Sand... as opposed to what? I wasn't aware there were other options for ground cover in Colorado

i got my 8x8 shed that we will turn into our new coop, hubby and i got it almost done this weekend but we got sunburned while wroking on it. I'll post pics later. we let the 9-10 weeks out in the yard with the adults and we had no problems with pecking or adgrestion. the adults did go after our cat when he got close the to younger ones. poor cat got pieck and hid in the hay. lol. once the coop is done we plane to have the flocks fully mixed. i am hoping the weather is nice and it does not snow but the forecase looks like rain for the rest of the week :(. the coop and mixing the flocks together might be on hold until the following week.

after the shed/coop is done I'll be posting our A-frame for sell if anyone is looking. it is 4'x6' and havey to move. (no wheels but will be cool to have them) i got pics of it on my page but we painted it with wood-sil and now its drown.

does any one have a cam in their coop?

I thought river rock was the only Colorado approved long term ground cover. It doesn't blow away!

Seriously, though.... do you all deep litter, or use sand (NOT native to your desert yard already, that is!!)

Well, with 12 Dominique hens that are laying, during the past 6 months we have gotten a total of 1091 eggs. (That isn't counting the EE eggs) March alone we got 250 eggs, for a March lay factor of .67. For just last week of March the lay factor went up to .73. (If every hen laid one egg per day, that would be a lay factor of 1.00)
Not too bad. That means that IF each dozen was valued at $3.00, and we were to have sold all of these eggs, the total $ value would have been $272.75.
LOL, of course we gave away a bunch, sent several dozen hatching egg duds to different people, and a couple of failed batches in the incubator........

Nothing like counting chickens or eggs before they are hatched.......

My March total was 177 eggs out of 8 - 2 year olds, 2 - 3 yo, 2 - 4 yo = 12 hens total I have 4 new ones just starting to lay, like 2 eggs total so far and then 10 replacement pullet chickies and more eggs in the incubator to see what pops out. The 4 year olds have names and are the original flock starters of this whole thing.

what breeds do you have Margie?
My old girls are New Hampshire then 2 Speckled Sussex then 7 Barred Rocks and one mutt. The new layers are from Mayah, her Maran crosses and this year's chickies are 2 BO, 1 SLW, 2 GLW, 2 EE, 1 Australorp that is not an Australorp (will have to see what it is later) and 3 Mutt babies. Mutt babies in the incubator are crosses from my BRs and NH with my Mutt Roo.

It is snowing here now. We have an inch on the ground so far. Hope you all are getting rain!
