Colorado

We took advantage of the rains and planted two new cherry trees. The ground was nice and wet....2 inches down...... Under that is was as hard and dry as before. So we dug the holes and filled them with water and let it soak in. Then added coop compost and dirt and water and then the trees. Hopefully these will take and grow nicely.

I believe it was this thread where peeps expressed their concern regarding HOA's. On Tuesday I nearly lost part of my leg and my puppy while walking to the mailbox. CenturyLink came through with some new fiber optics and left some 8" x 6' guide holes along the side of the road. I called them and got the run-around like the pope at an abortion clinic. Then I wrote the HOA president regarding my concern. He had one of his henchmen write back with a threatening note and denied all responsibility. This guy actually said he didn't expect another response from me. I gave him my address and #.
On another note, this ranch may be going on the market soon.

For those of you that have been following, the eggs went into lockdown last night. I was disappointed to see that all but one of the shipped eggs have quit on me. So out of 13 "blue" breeds from MyPetChicken, I ended up with on Blue Ameraucana going into lockdown. Eleven out of my twelve local copper marans made it! So I might still have a decent hatch...just a waste of money from MPC.

Scott, sorry about the hatch. Shipped eggs are a gamble to begin with and adding our altitude to it doesn't help.

P-Funk, ouch. I can be a bit evil on stuff like this but I would probably send another letter with some rather more pointed comments and details. Like the exact number, depth and locations of the holes and emphasis placed on the worst possible scenario. And sent certified mail so they know you have proof of the complaint. At best they may do something about it but at the least if someone does get hurt you have proof that the HOA was alerted to the problem and chose to ignore it.

I think I may have gone a bit overboard ordering 50 chicks. I have 25 Russian Orloffs peeping their heads off (poor babies were cold, they are all huddled up under the lamp right now) and 26 gold sexlinks softly cheeping and already starting to devour their food. Funny how I can already tell the sexlinks are a mellower breed than the Orloffs.

Sorry about the shipped eggs.
IN talking with others from the Dominique Club, it seems that a 50% hatch is normal, unless going from low elevation to high elevation. In that case, the 50% is cut again by nearly 50%, so that would only be a 25% hatch. a 10% hatch isn't very good. What does MPC say about their shipped eggs? I'm sure they don't give any type of guarantee...

A great way to give trees a head start.
We live too high for fruit trees, so we all expect you to share

The henchman actually responded. After explaining to him that lots of peeps, some on horses, use this road he told me it was my problem. Anyone want a 7 acre ranch in Franktown?

There are some available properties out here by me......... Of course, we don't have maintained roads either, but it tends to keep the rif-raf out...
