That's it Margie, you just made the list

This winter will be the worst on record because this summer will as well. My brother lives in Phoenix and it's like 120 there. Death Valley should hit almost 140.

See I would think it would be a shorter dryer winter after a long hot summer. I hope we get a long winter with 3ft blizzards, we need it but I really don't think it will happen. I think we are at the beginning of a really bad drought not just us but all the southwest and central states, if not more. I hope I a wrong, I really do.

Totally, completely agree.
I'd love a good three-foot blizzard. But I kind of doubt we'll see many of those in the near future. Whole west is and has been in a drought for years.

BTW, how's the home search going? Your chickens are fine, and laying pretty well. Always at least two eggs, one or twice a week we get three in a day.

I am glad they are doing well, I could never thank you enough for your help.

We hope to close in a few weeks and then the first weekend after we move in we will be building them a fenced in area and a new smaller coop. Then I can finally bring my fluffy butts home!!!!

It's raining now in Douglas County, to answer many questions at once... Is anyone in CO. Springs familiar with the Matrix Design Group?

Thanks Megs! I will give them a try next year. My coop is going to be full of pullets growing out to POL for Feb sale so no meaties over winter.

Though I may end up with a rooster to harvest. I have a Cuckoo Maran "pullet" I started calling Bertha as she was bigger than the rest. Then her legs got chunky and her come got big. Bertha is now called Bert. I hope there is a buyer out there for him but he won't be staying past September either way.
My lone Silver Cuckoo Maran "pullet" seems to be a rooster too. What's with this? According to the web pages, this is one of those breeds that is supposed to be easy to sex at hatching. I'm in the same boat as you, with no desire for a rooster. I have had good results with Freedom Rangers though and recommend a try.

Hey folks, I agreed a few days ago to foster some chicks for a fellow BYC poster who was going to deliver them to me this afternoon. Unfortunately, Highway 24 between his house in SW Colorado Springs and my house in the Green Mountain Falls area has recently been closed due to flash flooding and mud slides. My poor husband and son are stuck in traffic trying to come home from picking up a car from the dealership. Anyway, the chicks owner is about to go out of town tomorrow morning. If he can't make it up here due to the highway, is there anyone else who could look after these 4 chicks until I can pick them up (hopefully tomorrow)? They are between 1 and 2 weeks old and currently have their own brooder set up and food.

Send me a message if you can provide emergency overnight accomodations.

Yikes! It is pouring here, again, had one light shower earlier, and now a deluge! I can understand how the pass is closed, I imagine it is pouring there too, they said earlier on the news that they were worried about rock slides and mud slides in the burn area.

Well, never a dull moment. I am a rookie to trying to hatch eggs the broody way, so I placed some eggs from my boy's girls under a broody. She accumulated too many under her, so I decided to remove some this morning. Once I got inside, I realized one of the eggs sounded like water was in it. It wasn't water. I did an "eggtopsy" and as I tried to open it, POP. Needless to say it was rotten.

At least I don't have to clean out the nest box.

One mistake I will never make again.
