Matthew, there is a woman with 2 Welsh Harlequin drakes for sale right now in my area. They are actually Tweak's babies. I sold her eggs last year. Do you want to start with boys until we can hook you up with some hens?
Linda, thank you for the offer, but I'd like to start out with ducklings if possible. I'm willing to wait a few months (haha, willing. I've been told that I need to wait
) for that to happen, but thank you again for the offer!
Well I'll toot my horn a bit here. I raise Welsh Harlequin ducklings and I'm here in Longmont so that's pretty local!
I have some nice hens and both my new drakes are from an order of Holderread's Top Show Quality so I am eager to see the results for this year. I have a couple of gold hens and three silver. I don't show, but I try to raise both for conformation and high egg production.
Dances, I would like to take you up on the offer of ducklings
we'll have to discuss times and finances, but I love the fact that you are so gosh darn close
Back from our first attempt at the Stock Show, what a day. I took one silkie hen, Cookie, she won Reserve Champion Featherleg out of 30 some birds! Really enjoyed visiting with the other breeders. Very grateful for the help my husband & son offered. Cooping in is a bit of a challenge as Cara mentioned. Time limit, carting animals across the building and yes...charges for parking, admission, entry fee. Met a couple other BYCers!
Congrats on the win! I also got to thinking, with the work that it requires doing everything, it would almost be worth it for several people who are going to the show to meet up and go together. That way you share the cost of parking and everything, it's not as expensive, and you have extra hands if one person has alot of birds and the other only has several!
Just a thought. Eventually, once we get ourselves breeding what we want, I'd like to start entering the shows.
And, I wish people wouldn't post craigslistings for places so far away, then I get to looking, and trying to justify the long drive time

Lol, no, it isn't, and when I get my tax return I plan on visiting the farmers market, they had some good things I wanted to stock up on
And, I'll probably be coming to you for more ducklings after these get going to add different blood and make it pop
I honestly have no problems with you or your ducks/eggs, i'm more than convinced the hatching (or lack thereof) was our fault. *sigh* it didn't help that I was gone for almost two weeks so I wasn't able to monitor it the way I would have liked
Hi there, just wanted to show pics of yesterdays eggs. On left from my yr old BCM on right from my younger Blue Marans, not as dark but she is such a nice little pullet I will keep her anyway!
Sorry Linda, didn't realize you got up this way very often!
Hey how is Tweakberry doing?
I finally got those dog panel type pens up we talked about!! No more worry about the hawks now, but what lit the fire that made it happen was a fox was chasing the ducks again.
I think it was a youngster because it didn't do any harm but it sure shook the ducks and me up.
And the ducks actually seem to like being in the pen, since the fox came they usually only want to free range when one of us is out there with them.
Anybody out here in rural Elbert County? Would love to meet byc'ers ... I'll show you mine if you show me yours! Seriously, looking for ideas on chicken coops that are very easy to build and can keep my girls warm in the winter. Have lots of chicks coming soon and don't want to do this during the summer when it's busiest (with gardening, etc).
