Colorado

sent you a e-mail- jdopler, did not realize you were colorado till I checked this thread. I am not at the Stock Show this year, and probably won't be going in the future until they put the show back onto a Saturday like everyone else does. They just make it too difficult for poultry people there to show. Used to be check in was Friday, show was saturday and pick up on sunday, which is hard enough when you have to work for a living, not to mention you have the entry fee $4.00 I think this year? Which is crazy as I can do the double show in October for that price, that per bird, then you have the exhibitor pass, which has always been like $20 roughly and then the parking permit which is no great deal as we STILL have to pay for it (Another 25 dollars I think) and still have to walk a mile to the parking areas. I could understand if the exhibitors could park up by the building, but really? Some years its on the bottom floor, but other years its been on the 3rd floor and if you have 30 birds, that quite a stretch as they only give you an hour to check in before you have to move your car to the lot areas.

I do not raise Ameraucanas any longer, and everyone that I know of in CO that has Ameraucanas has EE's not pures. except for Kathy Hobbs, who has what I sold off to her of my blacks, but she is not on line and not a member of the CPA.

I'm more used to chicken eggs to be honest, but the yolks mostly looked clear. There was one that had a large blood spot, like it had gone to a week or two before giving up. That one was the blue egg, which I was kinda hoping would hatch

I also had one chicken egg (not sure from whom to be honest) that didn't hatch. That also had a blood spot, but it was waay more pronounced. No actual body, but it was more than the duck egg was. It's wierd really. Out of every batch of chicken eggs we do (I say batch like we do alot, its generally only two-five) we always have one egg that doesn't hatch. With the quail, we had the two quail eggs hatch, and none of the duck eggs. I have a feeling its at least partially my fault with the incubator. I've decided to retire the incubator for the time being. I'm going to build a different one, where I can closely monitor the water levels, not have to open it to turn or add water, and see if maybe that will work better.

But, I would still like to try my hand at raising the welsh's, so maybe i'll get some ducklings from someone locally *hint, hint*

Back from our first attempt at the Stock Show, what a day. I took one silkie hen, Cookie, she won Reserve Champion Featherleg out of 30 some birds! Really enjoyed visiting with the other breeders. Very grateful for the help my husband & son offered. Cooping in is a bit of a challenge as Cara mentioned. Time limit, carting animals across the building and yes...charges for parking, admission, entry fee. Met a couple other BYCers!

Well I'll toot my horn a bit here. I raise Welsh Harlequin ducklings and I'm here in Longmont so that's pretty local!
I have some nice hens and both my new drakes are from an order of Holderread's Top Show Quality so I am eager to see the results for this year. I have a couple of gold hens and three silver. I don't show, but I try to raise both for conformation and high egg production.
I won't be turning on the incubators till some time in February though.
I need to upload some more recent photos of my flock, but here's one of some WH duckies from last year.
