My guess is just EEs. They're all coming from a hatchery so...

===========
We ordered from Mary at Elizabeth Country Corner last year: 5 black australorp pullets and 5 americana pullets. One of the blackies turned out to be a boy! And the americana are actually easter eggers. It's obvious from the vast differences in the tufts, leg colors, and the eggs they lay. No clue what hatchery Mary actually got them from but I'm satisfied. Not one bird died... all are still healthy! And the roo turned out to be very good at his job. We have some of his chicks hatching at this very moment!

Ordered more blackies and other chicks from Mary again. Since we're not interested in showing, and needed more for egg production, didn't care if they conform to standards.

My chicks (from her!) are due the middle of March but I'm out in the boonies in Elbert County and not sure that would help you get yours. Except I open earlier and stay open later!

Seriously, Hubby works in the Highlands Ranch so would be available on Sunday evenings.

Let me know.

She always used to get her birds from McMurray but I haven't gotten any from her in the last couple years since we started hatching our own.

Nope, nope, you definitly said it right, I read it wrong. My bad

I would say once you take them out of the brooder, basically anytime after 6-8 weeks, they should be fine

that way they have most if not all of their feathers or at least a good portion so they'll be warm enough, especially by that time period

Idealistic - I read that and I had to hold myself together and not email them

We don't need yet another breed of chicken here, not when we are trying to focus on two or three breeds and have a general laying flock. *sigh* I could cheerfully hate you though for making that listing known

I saw that as well, and I'm seriously considering taking the time to drive down, since I'm not sure the feedstores in the area will get them in time for CJ's birthday

He loves them and wants to get some more. We had one we got from Murdochs last spring, but she/he? died after several months. I'd like to get some and surprise him with them for his birthday in March.

Mary gets her chicks from multiple different hatcheries. Her Ameracaunas are EEs but I've got five of hers and just love them; the hens are beautiful themselves and very nice. They lay beautiful blue/green and green eggs and have been my best egg layers through these frigid cold spells.

Chick_In_The_Burbs asked:
Huh... Well, I let DH look at the list of breeds that they're getting in at Elizabeth (looking for which breed to get as our 'spare' and he kinda jokingly pointed out the Silver Spangled Hamburg. Then I brought up a picture and FOR ONCE he actually showed genuine interest in a breed. How well do these ladies fair up here???

I also have a SSH from Mary who is going on 5 yrs. old. She's doing great, a little more flighty than my other chickens but has continued to be a very good egg layer (not like the Australorps or Leghorns) but her eggs are always smaller.

One of my favorite chickens was a Hamburg from Mary's place. That little hen ruled the place and laid every single day. No, she wasn't the friendliest chicken in the bunch but when she outlived everyone else she was called Mama and given protected status even after she quit laying.

Tell me about it! I left work at 1110 this evening and I didn't get home until 1158! It doesn't generally take me 48 minutes to drive, more like 30! there were several spots where the wind blew clumps of snow and you literally could not see the road.

Sitting on the couch sipping coffee and covered in blankets. * angrily shakes fist at the snow *

Zeus, one of my oldest son's cats, was begging to go outside the back door. I opened the door and he stuck his nose out, then ran back in the house. 2 seconds later he is at the front door begging to go out. Apparently he did not realize it was winter on both sides of the house! LOL Now he is on my son's bed pouting.
