I'm going to do the Valbazen tonight and then again in ten days. Hopefully that takes care of it...I'm pretty sure it's from them eating the mice out there. Ick!

I'm like you and try to keep things natural. Which reminds me I have a squash to cut up for them. (natural worm inhibitor)
I did have to worm our puppy when we first got him, and I just wormed our cat since he is looking really skinny and has been eating the rodents around here.
Curious what signs you're seeing that make you think to deworm?

We had another hawk attack today. Got our BLRW. She is missing some skin on her back and has a small puncture wound, but is alert and alive. Her injuries aren't nearly as bad as our other attacks so hopefully she'll pull through with no problems. The big problem is going to be keeping the flies off of her. She's inside in our hospital tub but even in here we have flies. I tried vet wrap but it's right above her tail and it just slips off. I have antibiotic on it and some gauze to try to protect from any flies we miss.

The good news for the day is we were finally able to pick up our new horse. :)

And our bantam EE finally laid her first egg

Oh, and I was able to get a good shot of the CCL pair we got from Ashdoes. They are 13 weeks old now.

Trsturself- I actually saw worms in their poo, otherwise I'd continue with just ACV in the water and hope for the best. At least I shouldn't have to do anything for a long while. They're all looking pretty raggedy as well, that started about a month ago, but we thought it was from an over zealous Roo.

Those ccl look amazing. He's got minimal color, and her neck has some nice cream. Did you plan on hatching eggs? I think they make a great pair.

After the worming treatment, give them some pumpkin or other squash seeds every once in awhile. They make the internal environment inhospital to worms naturally.
Now if I could just get rid of the lice! I don't see the actual bugs but a lot of them have the eggs on the feather shafts. I'm trying to keep DE dusted on them and in the coop. Hopefully the cycle is broken and the eggs will be gone once they all molt.

Yes, we plan on hatching eggs next year. You did a great job picking them out for me. :)

Quite an addiction. I started with two a RIR and EE but have since picked up a Barred Rock, SLW, and a Buff.
My kids love it they will do 4H come spring.

Nice flock and are you getting eggs now? Don't remember if you posted that you got chicks or pullets. So is this the beginning of the dreaded chicken math? Lol

The meaties are all resting comfortably.....,   we ( I) started at 8:30 because my water was hot (the others came at 9) and were finished and  cleaned up by 12:30.   One experienced and two learners and we did 24 birds.   Not too bad.  It was a great learning experience for my friends and yes, they are still my friends.  LOL!   Next Sunday, we will do a batch of 23 at my friend's house, which is why she needed to learn this process.
I have some lovely big boy roasters and some smaller hens, pretty typical range of sizes, and they all had some body cavity fat so I know they were getting plenty of feed.  They were 11 weeks, just perfect.  Can't wait.......She raised hers on organic feed and so I am curious to see if there is any difference.  I will figure out a weight for mine and see what they wound up costing.

Thanks for the update and I will be curious about your friends birds and organic feed?

thanks for the reminder on squash and pumpkin seeds, I had read that awhile back but forgotten it. Also congrats on the egg and new horse, is Luna happy she has a companion? I posted on the Meyer thread about the hawk, how is your girl doing today?

We had a visitor the other night, we believe a boar coon as the trap we set was broken in half at the lid, got the bait but no coon. We have to buy a second trap now, I have been taking no chances with the girls and put them in the enclosed run around 7 and lately everyone has been in the coops secured by 8pm. Just have to stay vigilant, we are almost done extending the fencing upward on the free range area, when I believe it will be 12ft at the top of the extension. We will be attaching wiring across the entire area. Here is a shot of the work in progress. We had two dark Cornish get out yesterday, one was outside the free range pens and the other Watson top of one of those wood pieces across the top!

Cochix looking good!

My flock tends to put themselves up by 730 at the latest, but my rc leghorn Nell seems to not want to roost in the coop at night anymore! Every night for almost a week I have had to go into the run and get her off the roof and shut her in the coop. On Friday night my bf put the chickens away and didn't see her on top of the coop but the next morning I was shocked to see her there skwaking at me. This is a new thing with her, and we have raccoons and skunks that have gotten into our live trap... I don’t want to find a chicken missing.

My cemani and haffies are getting their feathers in nicely. The ayam cemani without any tail feathers I think is a roo.. the haffies don't have the fibromelanistic skin, it's pink/clear, the ones that are cemani leaning looking with decent color saturation all have black skin. Yay!!

Luna was very excited. She came running when we pulled in with the horse trailer and stuck her head in the window while I unhooked him. She was running with her tail high. So happy. They ran around together for awhile then got a little snippy with each other. She tried to bite him and he kicked her. But after that they've been good. Calm and just acting like horses now. We are going camping this weekend but next week I hope to get them out for a ride.

Our BLRW seems to be doing well. She's alert, active, and eating. I put Granulex (sp?) on her to help her heal. So far so good.

Your run is looking good!

Ours have been putting themselves up by 7:45 too. Last night Dinner (yes, he's still alive, we were too busy this weekend) didn't want to go in so I left him out. He was in the enclosed run so I wasn't worried about predators.

I think the other birds know when there are "short timers" in the midst and ostracize them.... LOL!
My quail have blown up, yes literally! They are humongous in two weeks today for the oldest. I will try and get some pics or weights or something. They have an exponential growth rate, totally amazing. .

Egack! Another night of chasing Nell around the run to get her into the coop at night. What the cluck Nell!? There's plenty of room even for 3-4 more full sized lf hens in my coop, everyone is getting along fine, why has she now decided she's not made for sleeping inside the safe coop?!

My run is enclosed, but only chicken wire is on the top of the run, so not predator proof enough you know especially with the tree right over the top of the coop where she likes to stay. Now it's been 9 days since she started this behavior. My wheaten ameracuna Jeanette is still off her lay now going on 6 weeks?

Tonight gotta figure out this poultry pecker feeder thing.. my itty bitty peep peeps are getting the feed everywhere but inside their crops. I don’t pay for organic food to be scratched out and go into the dirt... my laying flock doesn't waste food like the itty bitty peep peeps do.

And now thinking... oh I should totally add quail! Stop me please!!

I just had to share with the Colorado group what we were able to score yesterday.
