I saw that pumpkin seed treatment here and was suspicious since, for the past 2-3 weeks, my flock have been eating the fist-sized pumpkins my dad grew this year in his garden. Maybe the pumpkins aren't sitting well with my hen.
Pumpkin seeds are actually very good for chickens. They can even help prevent worms.

Thought I'd chime in on the worming here since we just went through this.
I used wazine followed by ivermectin pour on. I liked the pour on because you just get a small dropper and drop it on their skin by their shoulders. I have tried putting things in chickens' mouths and unless you have someone holding it open for you, it is not easy!

Squash seeds (including pumpkins) do not deworm! They help prevent worms (not 100%) by making an inhospitable environment but if the animal has worms, they will not get rid of them.

I'm now dealing with what looks like an injured eye on our lavender orpington. It is very swollen. I have been putting noni on it (a hawaiian miracle) and it looks better. Yesterday she tried to open it as I was dosing her and I can't even see an eye in their, it's just red flesh. She isn't showing signs of a respiratory infection. No discharge from the nose, not shaking her head, not acting sick in general. Just the one swollen eye. She is still eating and drinking fine and the other chickens don't seem to be bothering her. Hope she pulls through. We just bought her and she wasn't cheap!
Why can't it be the extra rooster that has stuff happen!?

Good info on the worming!

I hope your LO makes it, Orpingtos are such a very pretty breed. We keep NFZ Puffer Dust on hand for any eye infections, also have a small tube of Tetracycline (sp) on hand too. Never have used Noni, let us know how it works. I wonder if she was pecked in the eye being the newbie??? Sometimes an eye injury to the iris will look reddish. There is also something called Cherry Eye that happens in dogs, it took steroids and antibitics to treat it in our dog over the summer. It ALWAYS happens to either your most expensive or favorite pet, at least that has been my experience!!!!

ETA, just did a search and some people use regualr Neosporin on their poultry eye infections, who knew!! Hope it is ok to post the link here........ http://successwithpoultry.blogspot.com/2007/12/eye-infection.html

Wind has picked up here, and I am doubtful that we made it to 41 like they weather page forecasted!

I don't think she was pecked. She was originally one of my friend's chickens but she kept flying over to my side and blended in with my flock seemlessly, no matter how many times I put her back on the other side she came back over, so I bought her from my friend.

My parents found out about the noni on a trip to HI, there are a lot of testimonials about it helping with animal injuries/infections so I thought I'd give it a try. So far it is has helped take the swelling down. I'm really not sure what's wrong though. It looks as if she doesn't have an eye at all anymore. Here is a pic. As you can see, she has her eye lid open but there's just red there. The crusty stuff above and below the eye is the dried noni. I don't know what the white chunk in the corner of her eye is. I got a big chunk like that out the other day. It's hard and white.

I'm going to start a thread about it and see what people say.

Where are you located again? I am on the west side of Pikes Peak.
Oh high country!

Thanks for the reminder about the seeds, I always get that mixed up. It is a natural preventative not a dewormmer!

Not sure about the white stuff, the girl that got pecked above her eye in our flock, her eye was very red/swollen and there was fluid that would get caked on the corners. At first I didn't have any idea what was the matter with her, we thought eye infection. After applying ice we were able to see the injury to the top part of her eyeball. Her eye was not open either. Good luck keep us in the loop as to what you find out.

I don't remember in where but in BYC they were talking about eye worms, you should look at it.
The idea is to get the worm out pushing the swallowing ( if she really has the worm )

Turkeys:
The processing size/ age depends on the breed. The BBB will reach heavy weights after 3 months and the regular turkey breeds might need about 5 or even 6 to reach 15/20 lbs.
There are differences in the breeds for sure.
We had some BBB a few years ago and had to use a pulley system to help with scalding and we used a medium sized NEW metal garbage can for our 40+ lb turkey. Worked great!
He dressed out at like 35 lbs. Ridiculous....

WELCOME all newbies and all new to the thread. Nice to have more voices on here.

Oh my goodness, I hope it's nothing serious and that she heals up soon. :/

Crowing contest at 330 am today.. I ignored it forcing my beloved to get dressed and get each (total of 6) loud roosters.

If I had taken care of it like usual, he would still be in denial, and keep telling me "Baby those roos aren't that loud. Let them live"

He isn't saying that anymore after this morning.

This flu won't let go it's grip on me. Today I started coughing up green yellow phlegm. No longer clear. And way more of it than I've had over the past few weeks. My new nickname is "snot blossom". I think I need to go to the dr. But I don't drive, he's all the way in Parker and the bf has to work.

On a brighter note, my bf ordered me the hovabator 1588, the janoel 48 and the brinsea xlg brooder heater.

I'm so eggcited to hatch my own chicks!
