How many Silkies did you add to your order? I might be interested in adding one or two here. I don't know if I have a pullet or cockeral, I thought she laid an egg the other day, as she or he sits on the nest sometimes. Do your Silkie cockerals do that too????

I added 5 silkies to my order. I only want to keep 1. I have never seen our silkie cockerals sit on the nest. I thought one of ours was a female forever though! It wasn't until he was nearly 5 months old that I was sure he was a he. The other I knew from about 3-4 weeks old.

This is my silkie, no comb at all, just tons of feathers, not the best picture, but all I have right now. He has bright blue near his wattles. I know nothing about this breed, so not sure what sex it is???? lol

He/she is pretty! My mom wanted me to get a Silkie before my work schedule changed. They are so fancy looking! :D

Does Cackle use roosters as packing peanuts? I know some other hatcheries do, but was not sure about Cackle. I think you chose well, 15 roosters in town is never a good thing! When is your order due to arrive? You could always grow out those roosters and process them...... summer is an easier time to grow them out, as they can free range some.

On the bottom left of the order delivery confirmation it says additional chicks may be added to any order for warmth.
The order is due the end of March.
I may just cancel it and do a different order using the rainbow pullets to fill it out to 25 chicks. DH is going to have a heart attack if I get that many chicks though. He was totally freaked out when I told him I was looking at the hatchery surprise. Said I could do it so long as I could sell the extras. I would have done it but 40+ is a totally huge number for me to try and deal with, waiting to find out who is a roo would be a giant pain too. It would just be way to many to keep even at 25.
I am rather practical most of the time and I really just want to keep the BA. I like the temperament of them. I ordered the Dark Brahama since they look interesting and tend to be broody in hopes that they can baby sit for me in the future so I can get away from the red lamp fire issues.

I didn't read anywhere that cackle adds packing peanuts. You should've just tagged on to my order so you wouldn't have to worry about the minimum. I just added splash silkies to my order so I can hopefully get a hen to breed to my roos. I think I'll be adding some welsh harlequins too.
I read on the site that changes to orders were no longer allowed since it causes confusion. I thought I was to late to add on with yours. I think I need to give them a call. Perhaps the site has that up there to discourage mass changes by people like me lol.

I just do not know which way I want to go yet. More thinking to do I suppose.

I am just hoping they do not put a huge amount of packing peanuts in the order.
I know what you mean about being tempted to keep a couple of the Wellies. I put them on the order to meet the order requirement knowing I should be able to sell them pretty easily. It was so tempting to get the surprise package but what on earth would I do with a bunch of roos. I am in the middle of town and any crowing would result in cranky neighbor being even more cranky.
Why don't you just bribe Cranky with food? Fresh eggs or chicken can warm most hearts and having a Cranky on your side guarding your flock could just be the ticket to a wonderful relationship...

Oh but cranky is such a peach. If a dog barks during the day even she calls the cops. My neighborhood used to have all chain link fences and folks would chat to each other through the fence. Not anymore. Even I have put up a privacy fence on that side. I gave her my phone number so she could let me know if the dogs bark collars had failed and OMG. I got 8 full page texts in less than 2 minutes one day saying how she had been up with a sick kiddo and had finally gotten to lay down and how my dog barked waking her up and how she did not want to have to call the police and so on and so on. I took off work drove the 30 minutes home to find my dogs were left in the house by DH and so it could NOT have been them.
DH and I are both surprised she has not called the cops on the hens when they do the egg song.
OH and cranky just had another kid. That makes 3 years she has lived there, 2 kids and at least 9 newly privacy fenced yards.

I want giant wind chimes now for some reason.

I did see the extra note when I went back and looked at my invoice. I emailed them to add the silkies and they just sent me a new invoice. I didn't see that changes weren't allowed. Maybe they allow additions but no replacements?

OMG! I hate neighbors like that. I feel your need for wind chimes. lol

@suncatcher love the Silkie, but so fancy I wouldn't want her/him to ever get dirty. Our White EE is a little muddy at times, makes me want to bath her. I don't just cause I can't really justify it. Anyway.......she/he is cute.
