Colorado

Thanks LS,
Yup them there be some flock critters fer sure. I myself have a rule that I never add less than three at a time.

Man this weather has me down today. Snowing and blowing here now. I kept the young ones in the coop today. They do not always go all the way in at dusk. I sometimes find 3 or 4 sitting on their concrete stoop.

I think DH is going to have a fit when the plant orders start coming in. I been shopping on the michigan bulb site AND Brecks. LOL I think I have about 150 bulbs coming in (probably more). Some as soon as next week and many many more in the fall.
I think I have it figured out now though.... Place an order and they send you a coupon... You use coupon to buy more pretty posies and they send you ANOTHER coupon so you can buy even more of them posies. You go back and look again ... is there something I missed when I placed the first 2 orders?? OF COURSE THERE IS.... so you order again and get another coupon ..........
I am not sure it will ever end.

Just a little something to look forward to. I have been able to keep gladiolus coming back without digging them up. These are on the south side of the house next to the foundation.

OHHHH I did not order any new gladiolus......... I think I have a coupon somewhere.......

My runner drake Izzy escaped a few days ago, and I still can't find him. So.. today I got 2 blue runner ducks to keep my runner duck Penelope company until Izzy return one day.

I also went to the chocolate festival today :) and bought and tasted a lot of yummy decadent deliciousness. And a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon. . This rain/snow is making my bones hurt..

A chicken and potatoes is roasting in the oven. After dinner, I am thinking hot bath with lavender epson salts, some lavender caramels :) & a bit of bourbon on the rocks might set me right. :)

I got 2 bourbon red turkey eggs to hatch today since the broody is catching and 8 ccl hatching eggs. I'm going to stick a few runner duck and turkey eggs under my broody ee Bessie, and the ccl eggs under my broody white bresse with a few other white bresse eggs since all 3 of my bresse are probably going to be all broody by Monday.

I'm going through straw so quickly with the incredible amount of rain we're sll getting here.

Hello All!

My wife, son, and I just got 4 chickens this spring for our first time. Looking forward to the experience. So far we have used lots of the info found on this site. We live in Westminster, just south of the metro airport.

Our chicks are a Rhode Island Red currently 13 weeks, and 2 Blue Andolusian and a Barred Rock at 9 weeks

I think you will continue to find BYC a very useful tool in caring for your birdies. Nice mix of breeds.

There really is a lot of info to be found here & some extremely helpful & friendly people in this thread specifically. I definitely wouldn't have lasted these past 7mos being a 1st timer without them!

So, the weather people weren't kidding about a winter storm warning! Our power flickered off after the transistor put on a laser show over an hour ago. I'm hoping it stays warm enough in this room for the 2 & 3 week old chicks since I don't know when the power will be restored. I'm also super sick & have a fever, so it still feels plenty hot to me, unfortunately.

I hope everyone else is fairing better!

Again, I'm super sick & had just woken up, so apologizes for the state of my face. These 2, at 8wks old, have finally gotten too big to both fit in the palm of my hand. Granted, I have small hands, but they are still getting bigger. Memnoch does his velociraptor crow every morning to wake me up because I couldn't have lucked out with Odysseus's crow suppressing his. Any newbies to raising chickens like me want to know what that sounds like, I have a clip from this morning posted at the bottom of my latest blog entry: http://www.aflockbetweenpastures.com/photo-of-the-day-09-05-2015/

I still haven't sexed the Blue Red Phoenix yet, but potential names are Lila & Nova. At 3wks old, this one seems to be getting longer in the body. I don't see much blue or red colouring, but I guess I also don't really know what I'm looking for. The comb is also starting to come in. As much as I would eventually like a male Phoenix in order to breed him, I'm really hoping this one is a female. 3 males is a bit much for me right now. 2 is already going to be a handful.

Potential names for this one are Sparta & Daedalus. I just love that face so much! While the rest of my chickens have faces that look like they're part of a biker gang & I just knocked over all their hogs, this one looks so happy all the time! Adorable! 2wks old.

And finally, potential names for this one are Nyx & Hades. I really like the cool grey of the feathers this one is growing in & I can't wait to see what the feathered feet look like all grown out.

Wonderful Colorado WX... Had to shovel a path in the snow to get to my girls. Already have about 6" in most parts of the yard. At least the forecast changes to 70s the rest of the week!

Its their first time seeing the snow. Last snow we had they were all still indoors.

Happy Mothers Day! (Please don't smell the flowers they all smell like computer screen. LOL)

We are all doing well even though we have snow too. I hope everyone is hanging in there.
My Lilacs are smashed to the ground with snow and so are the petunias I planted a bit to early. I cannot eve bear to check on my Iris in the back yard. They were in full bloom with about 50 flower stalks. I am pretty sure one peach tree is a goner (It had suffered a bad break a couple years ago and shows no signs of leaves yet).

Uzi, Them are some really cute chicks still. I had to say the crow made me

Hoping everyone has a great day and enjoys some nicer weather in the upcoming week.
