It was finally nice enough for me to set up a fenced off area in the main flock's pen for the M&M Twins. That went a little more intensely than the previous 2 times the chicks were next to their parents. I'm pretty sure it's because they were IN Odysseus's pen. Father & son had some animated exchanges where they mimicked each other's movements and clucked at each other. No fighting through the fence, though, so I was thankful for that. The 2 chicks are almost the same size as Odysseus, as far as height goes. They're still much lighter than he is. The only hen that was interested in checking them out was Penelope & that's because she's always there to step in between Odysseus and whatever he's having beef with (usually my rubber boots).

After awhile, I brought them back up to the garage pen because I was starting to have a lot of pain in my ankles from being on my feet all day. The month old chicks were in there and that didn't go as well as I had hoped it would. Memnoch gave them all a decent thumping, especially the tiny d'Anvers chick. I'm hoping they'll eventually be able to commingle without me watching them because everyone is getting a little too big and a little too ripe to stay in their brooders for much longer. The month old chicks still aren't fully feathered, but it would be nice to start getting them used to being outside and with the twins. That little d'Uccle sure wasn't going to let Memnoch peck at the d'Anvers unanswered. She went right up to him and gave him a good peck in the face before running away.

These 2 crack me up. They've really helped me manage this depression I've been in all month due to my job and my brain injury. All the animals have. It's good to have a routine and something to take care of to make sure I don't stay in bed and marathon TV shows on Hulu and Netflix all day. I'm not looking forward to more rain, though. I just got the pen cleaned out and unflooded! I know the adult flock is anxious to not be in the barn during the rain. Thankfully, the coop is almost done (and has remained dry inside through the deluge!) and they won't have to be moved back and forth from the barn anymore. Although, doing that has taught the flock to just follow me from the barn to their pen instead of having to carry them. Except Odysseus. He still insists on riding on my shoulder.

I hope everyone with that nasty cold is feeling better. I've still got that cough that makes my eyes see stars, but it is slowly going away.

That is their official site so they must have worked it out. It does say permit required so you may want to look into that. Some places like Longmont are only issuing a limited number of permits and if they are all claimed it could mean a lengthy wait.
Loveland is that one can have as many hens as can be properly housed and maintained without causing a health hazard or nuisance. (summarized)
No roosters allowed.

Of course HOA's have their own rules about everything so that can affect the keeping chickens thing.

And in Denver you can have 9 hens (ducks and chickens). So bass ackward. You can even have hens in the people's republic. Try unincorporated parts of the county. You shouldn't have any restrictions.

I do know of horses within the city limits in an older neighborhood. Chickens could be more of a problem in all the new construction.
I wondered if Denver had changed its ordinance, since my license says only 8 hens, so I checked it out. Here's the link: http://www.denvergov.org/denveranim...verAnimalOrdinances/tabid/434633/Default.aspx
I think "9" must be a typo.

What is the people's republic?

I blew up the pic and OMG that look is to good. LOVE the beard on her and OMG that hairdo is to die for.

I am up and about now but still have the nasty cough too. I am hoping it eases up for you and me both. Mucinex DM Maximum strength is helping to control it but is costly.

Thanks for the heads up on the limited # of permits - didn't know that.

My wife and I weren't planning on being as far north as Loveland, but I did see that they seem very laid back in this respect, so that's definitely appealing.

And as you said, HOAs are probably the biggest concern of mine at this point. Hoping that's not an issue wherever we choose to settle down.

Would anyone be interested in my crow reduced white bresse and ayam cemani roosters?

Code enforcement came by and said the neighbor complained again, even though they live in my basement. I have a lot of money invested in my birds between the crow reduction surgery and the breeds.

I also have pullets available of the same breeds. I'm sick right now and can't deal with everything atm. Help?

Just check into the HOA before you get into it and you will be ok.

This is the best advice. We spoke with our HOA president three times before putting an offer on our house, and then twice more. We also made sure we were well within code for all the animals we wanted right away and in the future.

She's pretty impressed with her looks as well. Every time I open their playpen in the garage. The first place she flies off to is the large mirror my mom uses for her jewelry sales. She is in love with her reflection. :D

Is this the same code enforcement from the previous visit? I thought they weren't going to do anything since you weren't breaking any codes? If I had the room/money, I would definitely house them for you until you could bring them back. Hopefully, someone can be more helpful than I am.

I definitely wish someone had given me that advice about HOAs before I bought my first house. They were the biggest pain to deal with. I definitely got too used to being able to do whatever growing up in unincorporated Weld County that moving to Denver County was a bit of a culture shock.
