So last night was night three of the Littles roosting with the adult flock at night. They all did it by themselves last night, yeah! The first two nights I had the fun task of trying to round them up and funnel them into the coop. I guess the next step will be roosting on roosts at night instead of sleeping in the nest boxes, small steps at a time. I am allowing the nest box sleeping a couple more nights. Once they have putting themselves away without any help then I will provide the next challenge, the nest boxes will be blocked. It is pretty funny to observe the flock behaviors, Left Eye (blind in one eye Delaware that we decided to keep so she has a good life) is loving life! She is not longer the bottom of the pecking order. She definitely is asserting herself a lot with the younger chicks. All the adults take turns terrorizing the Littles by chasing them off food or around the runs. I have just been letting it all play out. I will have to get a picture of the young cockerel that is crowing and following in dad's foot steps early. He makes me chuck by his look, his comb always looks like a hat, I guess it is because he kinda has puffy cheeks. Anyway, he is starting to answer Rocco's crows with his own, should be interesting to see the dad /son dynamic play out. Rocco hasnt gone after any of the young males yet, but they are about 4 months away from maturity, so there is stil time.
