Colorado

I had not tried that yet, but I'm glad I took her in this afternoon. Turns out that she was just super mucus-y! The vet took a bunch of samples to verify parasites & to double check the mucus, but she surprised me & told me I was doing the right stuff. I was just winging it off the worms I knew she definitely had. The vet said it was probably because the nights have been drastically colder than the days & that she should get over the cough on her own.
From everything y'all have shared here, I felt pretty sure it wasn't respiratory (she was eating/active & the only bird coughing), but I wanted to be 100% again from everything y'all shared here. Should find out tomorrow what kind, if any, parasites she still has & it didn't cost anymore than when I take my dogs in for their check ups.

So, if anyone was looking for a bird vet in the Northglenn/Thornton/Westminster/Broomfield area, I would highly recommend Broomfield Vet Hospital. Staff was great, Dr. Miller was great & informative & even went out of her way to not stress out Richmond. Richmond wasn't all that pleased about the trip & Dalton had a toddler sized fit the entire time we were gone, but piece of mind that neither she nor the rest of my flock are passing along a respiratory infection.

Plus, I finally got a couple pictures of her! I haven't been able to get close ups since I bought them!
I'm so glad to see you posted about this clinic...I wound up going to Loveland to see Aspenwing and was quite happy. I almost called Broomfield. Good to know!

Nice mix of colors! Grats!

Nice colors!!!!

Thanks.

So we will be processing Isis our all white EE, sadly she is a feather eater. I have seen her targeting the other EE, Rocco and our Delaware. I have made three molt meat loafs in the past month, hoping it was just a deficiency, but it continues. She will be processed with Rocco and maybe one or two other older girls...before the move.

Harvest season is among us, hope everyone had a successful growing season. Yea the sun is out!

Oh, so sad about your EE hen, you might be able to rehome her, of course you would have to be up front about her disorder..... Yep, sun is out here too! Think I am giving up on planting here at this altitude, no cukes this year, and squash was soooo small not even worth using, so the chickens got them.

Sorry about your EE

I haven't had a feather eater before.

Like I said a few days ago. I am taking my older girls to be processed on the 17th. I know I am processing the 3 1/2 year olds. I am now trying to decide who else needs to go to get my flock down to 16 or so hens.

This has been a bumper year for tomatoes, after a slow start. I think I have processed more than 120 pounds of tomatoes. I have made; spaghetti sauce, crushed tomatoes, pizza sauce, thin tomato sauce, enchilada sauce, Mexican flavored tomato sauce, and tomato paste. I made some nice jalapeno relish and candies jalapenos too. Oh, AND I had a lot of anchos this year so I roasted those and froze some. I also put up 14 quarts of pinto beans with roasted chilies and 16 pint of the same.
Phew....I have about 12 more quarts of tomatoes roasting in the oven now and when I am done with those I and DONE with canning for the year.
That said, I'll probably end up canning some chicken stock after I process those older girls. So, I am almost done!

Do they eat their own feather or the other chickens' feathers (or both)? I'm sorry you have to process her, @COChix - unless you were already planning on doing that, of course.

We had a rough time trying to get cucumbers, summer squash, watermelons, and pumpkins to grow this year. We got hit by a really bad hailstorm in June and they just didn't ever come back. My lavender also kept getting hit by the chickens and rabbits, so that never happened this year for me. The tomatoes, peppers, and wildflowers grew like crazy, though, and I got 2 pumpkins out of a plant that sprouted up out of the compost pile. Gardening was kind of a poop this year for us! I'm going to try getting some of those massive sunflowers and grapevines to grow next year - along with lavender again because I've got my heart set on growing some of that and I'm feeling stubborn about it now. :)

Got my first Father/Son picture yesterday, without incident or bloodshed!

They refused to look at each other, but behaved themselves.

Handsome boys!!! Yep, they will do that, not look at each other, means they are not challenging each other. When they stare at each other usually means they are about to square off!

I may try one more year, just giving up on the warm weather crops! Yep, I am stubborn too!!! lol

That would explain the stinkeye Odysseus gave me when I pulled him out of the travel crate and set him next to Memnoch. I think that bird might try to kill me one day... XD

I hear ya. I keep buying watermelon plants, and they keep dying on me. It hasn't sunk in yet that I can't will our soil to be more than sand so the plants I want to grow will grow.
