Welcome maarijke

Good luck with the HOA. I think if you approach them with the idea that you will be a neighborhood mentor and example for chicken keepers and other chicken owners in the neighborhood the HOA will be reasonable.
Keep us posted.

Have a great week everyone.

Hello everyone! New front ranger here. Moved from the mountains. Went to hoa meeting Thursday. Zero allowed by covenants however the town allows 6 hens.

I need 50 signatures from the homeowners in my subdiv by July's meeting as step one of basically a wild goose chase the hoa wants me to do. Any luck with changing covenants anyone? So for now Im looking at a year before we can get chicks. Maybe next spring? We are near Firestone, Dacono, Frederick.

You are not that far from where I live! I'm so glad we don't live in an HOA - I wish you the best of luck with them!

Newbie from Colorado here! I'm a native, actually, born and raised in the Springs. I live in Arvada now and have my first three chicks in the brooder as we speak! I have an EE, an Iowa Blue and an Australorp. So far they have been pretty fun and are sweet. The coop is up and ready for the chicks as soon as they get more feathers.

I have three kids, two boys who are 37 and 34 and my daughter is almost 31. I also have the most gorgeous granddaughter ever (of course!) who I take care of at least two days a week. She will be two in October and they live only about five minutes away from me. I am totally smitten!

and Here! Totally get the granddaughter besties! I have two myself and another one on the way.
You have a nice breed selection for your chicks. Have fun with them and welcome to the thread.

Greetings and welcome to BYC and the Colorado thread. My 36 yr old daughter visits about every other weekend and last week my 31 yr old son and 4 grands were here for a visit. Sadly, his wife was on work related travel and couldn't come. Was nice when they were closer... Anyway, grats on the chicks and glad to have ya here!

Well how ya doin?

Welcome to the Colorado thread...great to have you as part of the crew. There are a lot of very knowledgable people that call this place home.

I like the chickens that you have described. You'll have to keep us updated...I for one would like to hear more about your Iowa Blue. I have heard of them, and I've seen pictures of them. But I have never actually met someone who has them. The personal insite into the breed would be awesome.

I will keep you updated on the Blue. I had ordered a Wyandotte and the hatchery sent me her instead. She's really pretty, kind of small and a bit skittish. Her name is Sioux, as in Sioux City, Iowa. Get it?

We just had a massive hail storm here. The hail was only about marble sized, but was relentless and wind driven. It looks like we had a 4" snow storm! My brand new lilacs and hostas are sticks. I am NOT a happy camper. I'm glad the girls are still in the brooder in the garage. I can't imagine how loud it would have been in the coop!

Welcome Auntie Blue! This is a great place to call home for sure.

I am up north a bit in Loveland.

Congrats on the accidental Iowa Blue! I adore mine. They are a skittish breed but they are super at laying and being mellow about the noise. Mine look like small Black Australorps and lay medium light brown eggs. They are great at finding good things in the yard to eat. (All the bugs we don't want are grand treats to them) They also will strip every red tomato off the plant given half a chance lol.

Here is a pic of Skye as Dawn is busy being broody these days and mostly a grump.

Mine have a bit of feather damage as they are in a pecking order battle in this coop lately. The main hen went broody and that set everyone on edge.
