Hello all!

I am from Southeast Colorado! There are sooo many people and posts in here! Quite amazing!
I have 4 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Australorps, and 5 mixed breed hens and one Rhode Island Red rooster named Hank. I am really enjoying chixke s and joined this website so I don't drive my loved ones crazy with all my chicken talk! How has the winter treated all of you and your flocks? Half of my flock is still too young to lay, but I am only getting one egg a day from older gals and I don't know who is laying it.

Hi Cass,
This has been an easy winter for my flock. There has not been much snow and mine did well through the cold.
Now they want the garden to play in. They cannot play unattended as the hawks are many this year. They will get some time this afternoon since the weather is so warm.

I think they wanted more then the path I made to the sheltered end. Mine are rather prissy.

I wish I could have a big flock but I didn't want to go nuts on building a big coop...

With the size of the coop and run we probably have room for 6 or 7 but I wanted to start with these 4, and in a few years I will likely add a few more.

I do get over run with eggs from time to time lol. Starting with 4 gives you room and time to enjoy them.
I started with six but there are so many pretty breeds to choose from it was impossible to stay with just 6.
