Has anyone used Simla Frozen Food Locker for the poultry processing? Gonna make a "reservation" for Saturday for 3-4 of our birds. Just wondering.

Rain rain go away

I know people who have used them for years for buffalo processing. They really like them. Don't know about their poultry processing though.

I have, they're good people. Anything in particular you want to know?

Yes, thanks.

Do we need to separate the birds the day/night before? Do anything special with them? Take our own freezer bags?

Thanks.

I am planning to order some bantams and/or LF Pure Blue Wheaten or Wheaten Ameraucana's from either Mike Gilbert or Patty Pickard, they are both members of the breed club. They would prefer to ship in pairs, but I only want 1-2 pullets.

If anyone is interested, they can ship 4 birds per box.

I personally don't feed my chickens the night before or day of. Nothing special you need to do with them, just cage them up and drop them off. They bag them individually for you.

I asked before and got no answer so here I go again. Does anyone here near the Springs have sheep? Know someone who has sheep? We are doing a Shaun the sheep party for Gavin's second birthday and I would love if we could have a sheep/lamb there (silly I know but he would love it). If anyone can help me please let me know.

Maybe you can call your local 4-H Club, I am out in Avondale (east of Pueblo) and and I know someone with sheep here, I am not sure if they would want to go to springs but you could try to contact them, PM me if you would like contact information.

Oh geez. Abby Cadabby's sister Prairie Dawn has gone broody now. Dawn has been staring at the babies in the nursery pen ever since they hatched. Seeing those little ducklings must have got her all maternal. Off to slip a few more eggs under her. I think she only has 4 along with 2 fake eggs

I've got my first broody hen right now. She's on day 18. She took her "morning constitutional" today, ate lots, drank lots, pooped lots, then went back in to sit again. We've gotten in this habti: that I let her out first, and once she's decided to go back to her eggs, I close her back up and let the others out for the whole day.

She's looking good. No loss of color on her comb. No weight loss although she only eats for about 5 minutes a day.

Question: should I keep up this schedule ... 5-30 minute break in the morning? Do broody hens go on lockdown like incubators?
