Colorado

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I just love this site and it's members. I am about 2 and 1/2 hours from Golden, in Rifle, so it isn't totally out of the question. I would love to add a couple of silkies to my flock. Currently I have pearl white leghorns, red stars, 5 "araucanas" chicks (what they were labeled at murdochs) 1 barred rock chick, 3 ameraucana mix chicks (1 of which is a roo)
. I now know that many times birds labeled araucanas at a store are not true breed, but more of an easter egger mix. But oh well, they are fun to watch and care for. They love getting into their day time pen (large dog kennel in the chicken coop), they jump up and down from the roosts, repeatedly, chirp and peck and run.
Hiya Kiowa and Marlo!!!

I remember when I first started on BYC I was on here for hours and there were only a few thousand on here.

ShysCreations is in Golden. But if you get a chance to get any of her birds do it. They are beautiful!! Her Silkies and her Bantam Cochins.

Hey NoisyNora and TikkiJane,
Anne B. has calmed down a bit and I'm fairly certain she is a hen. How old was he before you started really being able to tell he was a he? Did you take pics of your roo? I would love to see him. If that happened to us, I would try and keep him. It would be up to the neighbors. We are not supposed to have roos here but we went walking the other day and saw a backyard coop with five roos within a 3 mile walk from our house. It would be very hard to give away one of our babies. Did you find a good home for him?
We were right around 6 weeks, give or take a few days, when Jasmine started crowing. :( I haven't been brave enough to find out if they didn't eat him.........

Well, we got 13 more posts set in cement before being forced inside by the thunderstorm and rain. Got a couple of photos, but it was raining so hard you can't really see any of the posts. BUT- the entire perimeter of fence posts are now in!

That's awesome, can you come do mine now? :)

I might have gotten some fencing done, had my husband not let me get 3 Embden goslings on Monday. I was completely taken by surprise when he said I could and have been trying to learn everything I can while being a new gosling mommy. I asked as a joke, thinking he'd never say yes because we'd already talked about waiting til next spring. Thank goodness all my brooder stuff was still out from the chickies. These have been my last few days:

Lots of chicken stuff here, the playpen in the foreground, the garage house for the girls, the mostly finished chicken coop for the boys.

Silver says hi!

naptime for the babies while momma keeps watch on the biggies.

Thank you for the complement Cara!!! I am making some decent progress in the silkies & cochins. Hatching is going very well, 6 last night & 3 this morning. For some reason though, the cochin hatches are heavily tilted to cockerels.
This has been a good site for info as well as a starting point to other resources. The NPIP site, breed club sites, agriculture colleges, poultry health, genetics, chicken calculator & on & on.

Yep Shy, I get all excited when I see the post titles on here and Craigs but then......I see "cockerels" NOOOOOO

As much as I would love all of your
re-homeys to be running around up here I just can't have all those pretty bantam boys darn it.
