Colorado

featherpets asked:
I wonder how I'd find someone out there to do that? I'm not too familiar with this web site yet,,,, would that be something I could post here? Which forum?

I think you could post on the "where are you - where am I" section: Ask for any Colorado person (put that in the title line) that might be able to help and give them some details of location, how many chickens, time length, etc.

Good luck. I wish I was set up to help in this type of situation but I'm not at this point in life.

joeyg4583 - our Colorado thread has no topic ... it's whatever the Colorado people are chatting about at that specific time!

Sorry - I don't know of anyone with black orps.

Hi Featherpets,

I sent you a PM. I found the city ordinances for Ft Collins on keeping chickens: http://www.colocode.com/ftcollins/municipal/chapter4.htm#sec4d117

It
looks like if you end up staying in town you'll need to reduce your flock a bit. That may best be done at your current location to spare the chickens the stress of moving? If you can find something out side of town limits you don't usually have those restricions from the law perspective, only from the land owner perspective.

Good luck and let me know if I can help at all. I'm in northern Colorado.

Ok fellow Colorado Springers, I have one more question- my coop sits on a run that is attached (so from the henhouse they can go up and down to the run as they please). I was planning on pulling up the ramp and having them stay in just the henhouse at nighttime but for ventilation issues was considering to leave it down. During the winter, if I did leave the ramp down, 1. is there a big risk of predators digging under or through the wire mesh (stronger than chicken wire) and 2. would it be way too cold for them? The henhouse is pretty small (4' X 3ish') and I don't believe I can safely put a heat lamp in there. What do you think? I've never experienced a CS winter before, though I was raised in Chicago. Would my hens be able to handle it? Also, do they free range when it's snowing out? I have two EEs/advertised to be Ameraucanas, 2 Barred Rocks, and 1 Red Sex Link.

Thanks!
