That reminds me, I can't believe I forgot to post. We have eggs too!

We got three on Sunday (2 blue,1 green), and two more yesterday (1 blue, 1 green). We've got 18 that will be laying soon, I can't wait til they're all laying we'll have all the colors.

The fire moved way north over the course of the day yesterday. It's right behind Blodgett Peak now and one of my co-workers is a block away from the evacuation zone on the west side of town. He already moved his wife and baby out even though it's not mandatory for them yet. Scary stuff. I do love that the radio keeps saying, "the fire department, red cross, and humane society thank you for all of your donations, but please STOP DONATING because we are overwhelmed with goods" it makes me believe in the goodness of humanity.

We had a scare yesterday. The patio umbrella we normally put up kept getting blown over in the wind so the girls had no relief from the sun. When I got home our little EE had one eye closed and was very lethargic. We brought her inside to the cool basement and she just laid down on my lap like she was collapsing. I'm always worried about disease since none of my girls are on medicated feed and I doubt they were vaccinated for anything at the hatchery. After frantically scanning the internet for Mareks and coccidiosis, she let out a giant poop right on my leg that was totally clear like water. After googling THAT lovely symptom, it sounded like she was just overheated. We put her downstairs in a covered box, fed her some cooked egg and yogurt, and she started perking up again. We popped her back outside in the tractor (which was in the shade by that time) and all was well. If she's looking bad again at lunchtime I might bring her to work to sit in the A/C which my boyfriend thinks is ridiculous. She always seems to be the most affected by hot temperatures even though she's the least fluffy. Do feathers act as heat radiators to cool them off?


Also congrats to everyone getting eggs! My cochin should be close but I've read they take 8-9 MONTHS to lay so she has 'til wintertime probably. The rest of our girls are about 12 weeks now so only a month or two left

Well, the carton says they're eggs, but if they come from factory chickens, are they really eggs?

Our EEs have been doing OK, but all the chicks have shade they can go into all day long, it just changes location a little. So far so good. It only got to 104 in our pens yesterday. Water consumpsion has gone up though.

Every time I go to the store and have to buy eggs I look at the calendar and count down the weeks..........

My daughter just got back from a short trip to South Dakota visiting her fiance's family...they brought us 8 dozen farm fresh eggs...God Bless 'em.

Thanks! After comparing my girls eggs with store eggs last night for dinner, man those things at the store are not eggs.

Just thought of a fun activity: When we all have eggs, Real eggs that is, we will need to cook examples of everyone's eggs the same way and see which breed's eggs we all like best! That is, some of us ever get eggs....... real eggs......
