Hi,
How long can an egg sit in the coop before it shouldn't be eaten?
My dominique has started laying and today we left at 8am and didn't get home till 9pm
I believe she usually lays first thing in the morning or around 2pm.
Today was a warm day, should I throw the egg away? or is it still good?
Thanks! Wendy

Put them in a container of water. If it floats, break open and see if it smells good or just give it to your dogs. If it sinks to the bottom, they are fine.

My new babies, that final count. We did some eggtopsies and found one quitter, three unfertilized duds all from the same bird, and one that died in the shell. I did the tap test and she peeped at me last night, so I figured i'd meet her in the morning.

How adorable. :)

Awww!

I'm with pichuris, I have chick fever now too, so dennarahl, please please please keep us regularly updated with pictures and reports! :) hmm, today's hatchlings are spring's new layers ...

I have eggs in the incubator. I have some cream legbars...which may or may not hatch as they came in the mail and some cuckoo maran chicks or cuckoo maran crosses. The servicing roosters this time around are both cuckoo marans with feathered legs, good stock. So if you still have chick fever, let me know. The crosses I'll give away for just a donation. The cream legbars cost a bit so would want the cost it took me.

What would they be crossed with?

The cuckoo marans that hatch would be pure as both parents are cuckoo marans. The other mix is easter egger X cuckoo marans...so I am assuming they will lay olive eggs. The cream legbars are suppose to be pure as well. I'm not as sure because the cream legbar eggs look no different than my easter egger eggs. I thought cream legbars were suppose to lay blue eggs and these are most definitely blue.

When will they be hatching? I was hoping some of mine would but they didn't. If its really soon (a couple of days, so I could sneak them under my recent mama) I'd be interested in getting some from you.
